FIBA Oceania staff visit the Marshall Islands

FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith and Development Manager Regan Kama returned to Coffs Harbour after a visit to the Marshall Islands. While on Majuro, the pair had a chance to meet with the nation’s President Litokwa Tomeing.

Basketball is a very popular sport in the Marshall Islands and is probably the most played sport in the country. The two FIBA Oceania officials spoke with the President about building links between the sports programs and national campaigns to deliver health messages to the population of the country.

Smith also spoke with President Tomeing about the possibility of the Marshall Islands hosting future FIBA Oceania events, including the FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament in 2012 or the FIBA Oceania Tournament for Men and Women in 2013. Our photo shows Secretary General Smith presenting President Tomeing with a commemorative basketball marking the 40 years anniversary of the formation of FIBA Oceania.
