Wild Cats defeated Younguns 5-4

Lae Corporate touch kicked off it's season with the annual pre-season knockout challenge the Supa-Four that was played over the Easter long weekend. The Mens Open division at the 2008 Puma Supa Four was certainly one to remember. All weekend it was up and down, with close matches, draws and tough competition. The Finals could have seen any one of six or seven Mens Open sides there, but it was the turn of the two oldest Club Wild Cats and last seasons grandfinalist Younguns. In the semi-final match up WildCats sprung an upset over last years premiers Gulf Poi 3-2 and Younguns outplayed Salamanda 5-3 in the other. Wild Cats started off well, scoring off the first drive of the match from the tap off scoring in the corner through Noel Clement finishing off the move. Younguns then drew even when Morgan Stanley responded darting through a gap before Wild Cats again drew ahead when a great step and long pass from guest player Mariat Johns saw Natty Kave score outwide. The score stayed that way till the half time break.

After the break Younguns again drew level with some clever work in the middle saw Goodwin on the score sheet. Then Natty Kave was in again for the Cats to give them the one point buffer before stand in skipper Waruf Warup scored a special of his own to again break even. The match see-sawed and so did the score until WildCats struck twice via the skipper Charlie Omae and Kea Kave giving them a two touchdown advantage. Almost immediately Ben Roberts struck back, to breath some life back into Younguns but time ran out as they were pounding the Cats defensive line for WildCats to survive and win the final 5-4.

Royal Remixs defeated Lombo Souths  1-0

Royal Remixs have claimed the 2008 Supa Four Women's title after beating Lombo Souths 1-0 in a very close encounter.

Royals led by representative players Laura Andrew Neriel Murup, Maria Watu and Vanessa Bilei had to display all their array of talent to outlast a very determined spirited Souths.

Young Vero Pera was on fire as she tried to ignite her chargers against last years champions. Young guest players Rita Dick and Meta Ali tried to rally around her to support her, but again time ran out as they fought gallantly to bridge the gap. Veteran Laura Andrew and Maria Watu held Royals together in the dying stages of the game to show their experience when the pressure was on to cruise through the match displaying confidence in themselves and their teammates. Souths fought hard throughout the game with Vero Pera and skipper Rita Dick of Lae Corp Under 20 players. The match was closely contested as both teams gear up for the 2008 season. In the dying seconds there was a sniff of a shoot out and the match could have gone either way as no team really stood out from the rest. With Souths unlucky not to come up with the goods.

Player of the match Laura Andrew proved to be the difference scoring the try that broke the back of the young Souths team, giving Royal Remixs the title.
