Samoa take bronze in the Men's competition
With most other sports now finished, and a rainy day outside, large numbers of spectators have filled the stands at the multi-purpose hall. The game between Samoa and the Fijians was an excellent showcase of Pacific Island basketball. The teams played a similar style of game, relying on their big men inside to do the damage early. Strong, and at times very aggressive, rebounding was a feature of the game.
For Samoa Brandyn Akana led the scoring with 29 points. Fiji were unable to contain Akana's shooting, which was accurate from both inside and outside the 3 point line. Cavan Scanlan added 13 points for Samoa.
The pointscoring honours for Fiji were shared between Simon Compain and captain Earl Hughes, both with 15 points. Tournament high-scorer Marques Whippy was kept to just 10 points by the strong defence of Samoa.
First quarter score - Fiji 19 Samoa 17
Second quarter Fiji 15 Samoa 20
Third quarter Fiji 28 Samoa 20
Fourth quarter Fiji 11 Samoa 19
