Women's Doubles Final

Laura Arnaud and Alexandra Heraclide from New Caledonia took on Priscilla Tommy and Anolyn Lulu in the Gold medal match for the Women's Doubles.

The first game saw Tommy play some incredible Defensive play to set up the first game and to put the Vanuatu pair 1 game to 0 in front.

The second game was very tight and it seemed that Lulu was struggling under the pressure because when it got tight she missed some easy balls and the New Caledonian pair took the 2nd game 11-9.

Tommy however, was playing strong table tennis and with some excellent defensive play she got the Vanuatu pair back into a strong position in the third game. However, the New Caledonian pair fought back to make it 9-9. Then it was 10-10 after a great smash from Heraclide. Lulu then missed two relatively easy topspins to give New Caledonia a 2 games to 1 lead.

In the 4th game and the Vanuatu pair looked dejected as Arnaud and Heraclide got off to a great start and won the first four points. Then just when it seemed over the New Caledonians could get nothing past the young Tommy and she played some incredible table tennis to give Vanuatu the game 11-7.

So it was down to the deciding game, another fantastic extremely close match was being played out,

In the 5th and deciding game and again the pressure had got to Lulu when she missed some easy balls and New Caledonia raced to a 6-0 lead. Lulu and Tommy were looking dejected.

Vanuatu then got the game back to 6-4, then 7-5 for New Caledonia and again Vanuatu had a small chance. Then 7all with a great play from Tommy and then a missed smash from Vanuatu had the Vanuatu team in front. Then point for point got it to 10 all.

A close encounter and just when Vanuatu had a match point and Tommy had made an amazing push it seemed Vanuatu would take gold, BUT from almost off the floor Heraclide made an amazing return which Lulu missed. After Heraclide made an amazing topspin which Lulu put into the net and New Caledonia had match point. They won the final point and then the Gold medal.

A great game of table tennis that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

So in the Women's Doubles: New Caledonia (Laura Arnaud and Alexandra Heraclide Gold, Vanuatu (Anolyn Lulu and Priscilla Tommy) Silver and Bronze to Palau (Jasmine and Jamilie Watanabe) and Vanuatu (Emmiline Clotchard and Kerry Mok)
