Weightlifting Started Today
A total of 23 women's weightlifters have registered for the Competition, with many last minute withdrawals due to difficulties experienced in travelling to Palau.
The most hotly contested divisions for women will be the 58kg category and the over 75 kg category which have good fields of lifters.
Big things are expected of the world ranked Dika Toua of PNG and Sheeva Cook from Nauru.
Niue's Soie Haoti has been lifting well and recently broke the Oceania Junior Record.
local interest will focus on the Patris Twins and Valerie Pedro, all of whom have a chance to win medals.
21 Gold Medals will be decided today which will make a large impact on the overall medal tally for these Games.
The Games Charter stipulates however that there must be a minimum of 5 competitors for all medals to be awarded. When there are four, only Gold and Silver will count in the Overall Tally.
When there are three or two competitors, only Gold will be counted.
