Makira Home of SPG Gold Medallist Jim Marau

Its so good to be here in Makira. But did you know that it is the home of of many fine athletes including 2000 Olympian Primo Higa and the 1975 SPG Gold Medalist, Jim Marau.
Interviewing old Jim today, he said this Solomon Games brings back some of his memories to when he is in the Solomon Islands national athletics team back in the 70s.
Jim lives 3hrs from Kirakira by OBM, but traveled here to witness the 2006 Makira Solomon Games in action. Old Jim said its exciting to see young enthusiastic athletes eager to come to Makira to compete.
Already the athletics competiton is looking to be a big one to be held from Wednesday to Friday 28 - 30 June 2006. A 28 event Program is planned with all running events being offered.
As the likes of Jim and Primo can prove, Makira is a haven for great runners and they will be expecting to reap a rich harvenst of medals from these Games.
Jim said this is sport and thats what it is all about. Come to Makira and lets all have fun and set personal best and break national records.
