Prime Minister hands over Va'a for 2007 SPG

The Samoan Prime Minister, Sailele Malielegaoi Tuila'epa gave Outrigger Canoeing a major public profile boost when he delivered the keynote address for the handing over of the sixteen 'V1' and sixteen 'V6' for this year's South Pacific Games.

The canoe blessing ceremony was held at the Samoa International Game Fishing Association (SIGFA) on the 9 July 2007 and was attended by members of Cabinet, South Pacific Games Association Officials, SOCA members and others.   The Prime Minister reiterated the Samoan Government's commitment to hosting the Games as demonstrated by the ST$690,000 it paid to Wai Tui for the va'a.

South Pacific Games Chairman Faumuina Tiatia Liuga cut the ula of Teuila flowers after which members of the National Men's Training squad took one of the V1 and one of the V6 out into the harbour for a paddle.
