PNG update at Oceania Championships

PNG came very close to a sprint double at the Oceania

Championships in Cairns last night with Nelson stone just

being edged out in the 100m final by Australia's Liam Gander

after Toea Wisil had won the womens final. Stone was running

his fourth race of the day and after fine runs in the 400m

heats and the 100m semi final where he clocked  apersonal

best 10.59 seconds, Stone was slow out of the blocks and

finished in 10.61 secs to Gander's 10.60.

Maria Kuanduma won gold in the womens 3000m race whereas

Kupsy Bisamo claimed silver in the mens 5000m. Andipas

Georasi had a fine run on his international debut to finish

fourth in the mens 5000m.

Todays events include mouthwatering 400m clashes between

Toea Wisil  Betty Burua and Salome Dell and between Nelson

Stone and Sean Wroe, one of australias best 400m runners.

Other track events include the 800m with Donna Koniel and

Tuna tine expected to be competitive in the U20 race  and

the 3000m steeplechase which will feature three PNG runners

in both the mens and womens races
