ONOC GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN MOSCOW
The ONOC General Assembly began in Moscow at 1:30pm today (Thursday) 12th April at the World Trade Center. The assembly was attended by over 90% of the member countries. An NOC could not be respresented to due to difficulty in obtaining visas as well as the poor weather condition we experienced prior to departure for Moscow especially in Nadi.
The Assembly received and approved various reports from ONOC as well as programs and commissions within the regional committee such as the OSEP, ORADO, STOP HIV and OSIC. Ms Nicole Girard-Savoy (IOC Section Manager for Olympic Soliderity) also presented her report of fundings given by IOC to assist NOCs in the region. Vice Chair of Atthletes' Commission , Mr. Andrew Lepani presented on behalf of the Chairlady who was not present and Auvita Raphilla presented the ONOC Women and Sport Commission report.
During the course of the session, The Interim President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah (OCA President) paid a visit to the ONOC Assembly meeting and spend nearly 30 minutes briefing the ONOC members of his vision to lead the ANOC.
Earlier ONOC representatives unanimously agree to support the endorsement of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah to the postion of Interim Chairman of ANOC after the resignation the former Chairman, Mr. Mario Vázquez Raña.
The General Assembly of other Continents also took place during the period as it was the time set aside by ANOC for Continental Association Meeting.
The ANOC will commence tomorrow, Friday 13th April
