Fijian Tussle- no love lost
The much anticipated tussle between the two Fijian women’s team at the Oceania Pacific Cup competition lived up to expectations.
The injury hit senior team was taking no chances against their younger siblings on a fine Suva afternoon.
It was the final match on Day Two of competition and both teams got loads of moral support from the local audience who saw their jersey colours as the only thing separating the sides.
The Shaun Corrie coached National side with three injured players in Elaina McDonald, Melba Nautu and Rebecca Lemeki and three more players opting out because of their religious beliefs had only one substitute on the bench for 70 minutes.
“I think the girls did well. We’ll take the 4-nil win,” said Corrie.
Corrie welcomes the well earned break in the next two days before they front up with Samoa on Wednesday.
Fiji Under 23 manager Julie Bentley was satisfied with her team’s performance.
“Giving the Fiji team a four nil score line is an achievement,” said Bentley.
Scores: Fiji Women 4 (Catherine Thaggard 9th & 70th, , Ateca Fatufago 51st, Litiana Sogobutu 67th), Fiji Under 23 )0.
