Smarter Than Smoking Junior Development Program

Smarter Than Smoking

Busselton Junior Hockey Development Program

2009

The Busselton Hockey Stadium has received approval and support from HockeyWA and the South West Hockey Association to run a sub-pilot Development Program of its own.

The Smarter Than Smoking Busselton Development Program has a primary aim of increasing hockey by encouraging new junior players into the sport while continuing the development of existing players, coaches and officials.  The Program will be implemented by Development Officer, Fiona Rumsa, and several Hockey Deliverers, with support from the Busselton Junior Director and Stadium Manager, and the South West Development Officer.

The Progarm will recognise the assistance of the Smarter Than Smoking health program and ensuring the Smarter Than Smoking message is promoted at all opportunities.

The Program has also been supported by Just Hockey with the supply of a large amount of equipment that is being utilised in the school programs.

The Development Program has commenced in Term 1 with the Smarter Than Smoking Schools Program, aimed at children in Years 3 and 4, and is carried at several schools in the Busselton - Margaret River region.

In Term 2, there will be weekly Development sessions held after school at the Busselton Stadium to help develop existing players (both high level and development level players).  Coaching and Umpiring sessions will also be run during the course of the winter hockey season.

Further information about the program can be obtained by emailing bsnhock@iinet.net.au
