2009 has been an exceptional year for Gower who, in July, was selected in the NSW Residents team and won the Apprentice of the Year at the Central & Northern Sydney Regional Training Awards. In September he made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in their round 26 victory over the Bulldogs and he is also highly regarded by Wests Tigers and Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens.
“To be named NSW Cup player of the year is a huge honour because there is some prestigious talent in this competition,” Gower said. All the accolades in the world don’t compare to a Premiership though. To win one with all my mates at the Tigers would be a dream come true because we have worked so hard for it.”
Gower beat out a host of prestigious talent including Hep Cahill (Storm), Samu Wara (North Sydney), Danny Williams (Bankstown City Bulls) and Ben McFadgean (Windsor). To further confirm his efforts David Gower was awarded 'Ryde Sports Foundation Sports Star of the Month’ at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club.
