Hi All,
I thought I’d also give you all an update the new players to the club in 2016
Michael Barnes - joins us from Sorrento in the Nepean F/L, Michael is a hard running midfielder that has displayed great skills in his career at Eastern Ranges and moved to Queensland to try to win a rookie spot on the Gold Coast list, after a stint in the QAFL Michael returned home and played at Sth Croydon in the EFL before moving down the beach to play for Sorrento last year, after starting work with Jugganort Construction (Jarrod Bayliss’s company), Michael decided the kennel was a great place to build on his football, so let’s all give him a big welcome when you meet him up the club.
Daniel Wilson – after a decorated junior career in the EFL Daniel has decided to make the kennel his home joining his older brother Ryan at the club, Daniel is a well-built explosive runner of the footy who will complement our already strong midfield, Daniel has played in the premier level junior competitions in the EFL and spent 2 years on the Eastern Ranges list, this will give us 6 sets of brothers playing footy for the club in 2016 so let’s all give him a big welcome when you meet him up the club.
Jake Driessen – after a year at Yarra Glen bug Jake has decided to head back home to Wandin and assist us to bolster our big man department to ease the pressure on Robbie Ross to play in the ruck for entire games, Jake as you all know can tap the footy down the throat of our great running players and will be a valuable asset to the overall balance of the team, so make sure you welcome big Jake back when you see him up the club.
Josh & Jordan Smith – the 6th set of brothers this year are Josh & Jordan Smith, they’re both terrific young blokes joining us from AFL Queensland (Josh) & Silvan FC (Jordan) don’t know a lot about their football background but they’re both very keen trainers and will certainly add to the oval depth of the club, please make sure you introduce yourself to the boys when you see them up the club
Jayden Hirst – you might remember Jaydon from his 2 explosive years of Under 18 footy under the coaching of Mark Glenn in 2012 & 2013, Jaydon after a couple of years away from the game is training hard and displaying some of those special skills on the field that made him a crowd favourite in his Under 18 days, my early tip for you all is to watch this space as this boy can play and will feature in a big way at some stage this year.
Josh Shaw – it’s with great please I announce to you all that Josh has fully recovered from his knee reconstruction that seen him miss the entire 2015 season and it’s great to see him out having a run display those sure hands and excellent disposal from his 1st season of senior footy in 2014, like Jaydon, Josh will be a surprise pack in the 2016 season, he’s a quite young man so when you get a chance make yourself known to him so he get the sense & feel of what a great family club we are
From an Under 18 perspective we were lucky enough to secure the services of Julian Smith again in 2016, he is an amazing talent & works wonders with the young boys of the club, our numbers are great and we’re averaging around 16 on the track each time we train and look like we’ll get to our target of 24 players for the season, I’ll update you all over the coming weeks on the exciting news of the players returning & coming (son of a club legend) to the club, we were good last year making the grand final and I can only see us improving on that again in 2016.
Regards
Rob Bayliss
