President Shaun O'Neill's report of the recently completed 2021 season:
PRESIDENT'S REPORT - 2021
Firstly, I would like to thank Danny Crothers for his contribution to the below summary of the 2021 season.
Yeoman enjoyed its most successful season since 1998, notching up 12 wins and a draw in the Seniors and 10 wins in the Reserves. That came after a winless season in 2019, (it is fair to say that that there was a lot of emotion from the Yeoman faithful after a one-point victory on Gala Day) leading to the DFA award for the most improved club.
Several recruits and returning players of high calibre made a big difference, with Alex Baldock winning the Ewington Medal, and the astute coaching of Peter Fulton saw the further development of some very promising young players. The downside was the loss to injury of half a dozen top players during the season, making progress through the finals that much more difficult. Nevertheless, all at the Club can look back with pride on the progress made in 2021.
This year, we decided to update our medals by changing their names to better reflect more recent contributions, thus honouring those individuals and families who have been the backbones of the Club. The Seniors Best and Fairest is now known as the Wynwood Medal, with Tyler Dell becoming the inaugural winner after an outstanding season. The Reserves now compete for the Chilcott Medal, held for the first time by Blake Kennedy. The late stalwart, Garry Pearce, has been honoured with the first Pearce Medal going to Bailey Jackson as the best under 21 Senior.
A special mention for the latest inductees to the Legends of Loyalty, Margie Wynwood and Sue Wynwood, and the new Life Members, Dwayne Johnson and Jaime Wynwood, for all the work they have done over the decades. A highlight of the year came in May with the celebration of Yeoman’s 125th season and two members of the Wynwood family featuring strongly – Robert for reaching 200 games and the “grand old man” of the club, Jack, reaching the age of 95
With some solid foundations being laid in 2021, we look forward to a chance to continue an upward trajectory in 2022.
Shaun O’Neill, President
