An urgent call was answered recently by the Rockingham RLC Club with two sets of jumpers and training balls, cones and bags which were badly needed in this community in Papua.
The Brothers Club (PNG) presented Ben with a jumper to be presented to the Rockingham Club at the High Commission in Port Moresby.
Ben wrote the following.
Today I went to visit Solomon, senior player and the coach of the Under 19 team of the Brothers Rugby League Club, at the Australian High Commission. He had two of his players at the meeting where I presented the Jerseys. In an act of gratitude Solomon and the Brothers Rugby League Club presented one of their First Grade Jerseys to me. The meeting with the Brothers representatives at the Australian High Commission was a media event and I'm told it will be published in the local newspapers of Port Morseby.
I'm told that a lot of the players of this particular club are from 'the settlements' which indicate that they are mostly unemployed persons living with a lack of electricity and plumbing.
The club is heading for its 25th Anniversary in 2012 and has its AGM this Friday at Larkhill commencing at 2012.
