With a stellar 8 goal performance from Glenn Robertson, West Preston-Lakeside have recorded their second win of the season, running over the top of Epping by 54 points, 19.2.126 – 11.6.72.

After the under 19’s and reserves had recorded wins earlier in the day, it was shaping up to by a good day for West.

After completing his 5th game where he rucked for all 100mins, Andries walked towards the boundary a dishevelled man. He put together another outstanding performance and was the dominant big man for West Preston for the fifth week in a row.

But is this enormous workload in breach of “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights”.

West Preston Lakeside has held off Macleod to record their first win of the season by 15 points.

After the under 19’s had recorded a resounding 124 point win and the reserves had taken care of their opponents by 80 points, it was up to the seniors to get the West hat-trick for the day.

In the week leading up to round one, new West Preston Lakeside recruit was cleared to play for the club after a long and arduous process. After his release from former club Oak Park was rejected by the club twice, the AFL appeals board allowed his release

Our U/12, under the guidance of Martin Pike (4 time premiership player) won a tight fort contest against South Morang.

The opening game of the season always comes filled with optimism and it was no different for both West Preston and Montmorency. After the Reserves had got the job done by 27 points with stand-out performances from James Rizzolio and Matty Whittaker, the excitement was high amongst the West Preston Lakeside players, and you could feel it in the rooms as the game drew closer.

Though much of the focus for the West Preston Junior Football club is on developing our kid’s football skills, it is important to remember that a significant influence on how kids act and feel connected is learned through observation and participation.

Shaun Gannon dual Best & Fairest winner has been appointed Senior Captain for season 2013. Frankie Raso announced his appointment at the launch and said he had Ganno as a potential leader on arriving at the club and the pre season and practice match confirmed his ability to lead the club. This will be Shaun's 5th year at the club.

While the rest of us are preparing for our second practice match against the Northern Blues, one of West Prestons past players, and current junior committee member is trying to work out how he got himself into his current situation.
What situation is that you ask?

We are very pleased to announce the signing of the very highly regarded Steven Shaw.
Steven comes to West as a very versatile player who can play key positions at either end of the ground.

Steven said the fact that West have a very exciting list, new coach, new upgraded facilities and rooms, made his decision to commit very easy.
He is looking forward to being part of future success.

Big job managing the hopes and dream of 350 aspirations that will represent the West Preston Jnr club 2013. Takes special people to decide that they will coordinate the logistical task of getting 12 sides registered and up and running for 2013.

Congratulations to all concerned for an excellent launch of our new facility. Club president, John Schott captured the sentiment well when he acknowledged all the hard work and dedication that has gone into the eventual outcome: a great sporting environment to accommodate all the sporting clubs that will use it over the calendar year.

The Roosters are over the moon with the pre Christmas signing of Raygan Tate.
Raygan who resides at South Morang comes to West via Whittlesea.
A premiership player with the Eagles ,he played junior footy at Epping and South Morang before heading north to the showgrounds in 2009.
His desire to play NFL Division 1 is behind his move to Preston Nissan Park where he has found his new teammates most welcoming.
The coaches and players are great to get along with and I have a really good feeling about the place" he noted. "I'm really looking forward to playing footy here".

West Preston young utility James McInerney wrapped up his tough pre-season campaign last Sunday by completing the Geelong Long-Course triathlon. A Long-Course triathlon consists of a 1.9 km swim, followed by a 90 km bike ride which is then followed by a 21.1 km run. Having completed his first triathlon only 3 weeks ago, James’s performance on Sunday was nothing short of unbelievable. His time of 4 hours and 45 minutes was simply amazing.

Though many of us spent their childhood dreaming of one day kicking the goal the ultimately wins the game, the reality is, very few of us ever find ourselves in this situation. Never being fortunate enough to be “in the right place at the right time” so to speak, I did have the privilege to be on the ground at Moore Park in 1993, when in fact, Big Mac Mcleod had his finest moment: delivering the crashing blow in the form of a 50m drop punt after the siren that downed Diamond Creek by 2 pts.

Preseason is often a time where the sense of anticipation informs most footy club conversations. With many clubs working diligently on ‘who we can get” to bolster their stocks for 2013 campaign, often we forget to reflect on “who we’ve got”.

West Preston Lakeside football Club are extremely happy to announce the signing of Alex Gleeson to the club. Alex comes to West on the back of a very distinguished career at Oak Park football
club .He has played senior football at Oak Park for 10 years and been Senior Club Captain for the last 5 years, including Premiership captain in 2009.

Ryan Leaver

Ryan is a Year 12 student at the famous sporting school Assumption College Kilmore. Ryan initially grew up in Rooster territory in Reservoir and now resides at Hidden Valley, north of Melbourne.

A lover and keen follower of all sports, Ryan is particularly passionate about football and soccer, both of which he has played through Junior ranks with success.
