Generals Basketball Club - Age Group Co-Ordination Policies and Procedures

Generals Basketball Club supports the following principles with regard to the development of all junior players and teams within its structure :-

 1/. Players and teams are to be encouraged to play initially in the correct age group

2/. Players and teams are to be encouraged to train together on a weekly basis

3/. The creation and/or retention of `dominant' teams with an age group is to be discouraged 

4/. The creation and/or retention of `competitive' teams with an age group is to be encouraged

5/. The creation of teams in higher age groups to accelerate the development of players (ie. allowing them to play an  extra game outside their current age group) is to be encouraged - especially where squad teams are not represented.

6/. The participation by players in Junior Braves Squad development program is to be encouraged and supported

7/. The participation by players in referee development is to be encouraged and supported

8/. The formation of teams at U10 level whereby all players in any 1 team are born in the same year is to be encouraged

9/. The retention of `teams of friends' and `groups of friends' to remain together through each age group if so desired is to be encouraged- ie the decision is with players - not the coaches

10/. Any movement of players between teams is to be done through consultation between coaches of BOTH teams and player / parent. Ie. All concerned should be aware of a players proposed movement   

11/ The development of players and parents as coaches and managers is to be encouraged and supporte

12/ To facilitate the support and management of GBC policies an Age Group Co-Ordinator (AGC) is to be nominated by the GBC Committee for every each junior age group in which the club has teams entered.

 AGC Role and Responsibility

 i/.   Establishing  viable communication channels with all club teams in all divisions within the age group via coach and or managers.

ii/.    Have an understanding of the team player lists of all club teams within the age group.

iii/.    Have an understanding of individual needs and requirements of each team within the age groups.

iv/.   Establish reliable communication channels with the GBC committee so that information can be filtered through to all teams (eg email).

v/.   Be a reference point for the placement of players / teams within the age group including that advancement of individual players to higher divisions if desired.

vi/.   Be an escalation point for any parent / player / coach with the age group.

vii/.  Work with team coaches and training venue co-ordinator to `streamline' training within each group where possible.

viii/. Facilitate two meetings per season (3 - 4 weeks prior to season end) to create / merge / remove teams for the next years competitions

        - one with AGC and coaches in  the older age group to cater for players / teams  moving up an age group

        - one with AGC and coaches in the younger age group to cater for players / teams coming up into the age group

ix/.  Recruit and educate a replacement age group co-ordinator when its time to move on.
