Coaching at Wauchope SC

Do you want to coach?

We care about our kids at Wauchope SC so it is club policy that all our coaches and volunteers having a Working with Children check.  This goes beyond the government legal requirement that only those that are not family members need a check, because evidence has shown that there is high probability in a child protection case that the perpetrator is a family member.

I don't know how?

All our coaches received a coaching manual, which comes highly recommended by FFA.  Our club coaches are qualified to run coaching courses which we recommend you attend.  Whether you attend a course or not, our club coaches are there to support you throgh all manner of issues ranging from how to set up a basic training session to handling difficult players and parents and issues during a match. This is also a good resource.

Our coaches are provided with training and match equipment.  If any equipment has a malfunction, the club equipment officer will assist you to put things right.

I can't fully commit

But you still want to be involved in your kid's sport, right?  How about teaming up with another parent so that the role is shared?

Coach Registration

Requirements

  • All coaches at Wauchope SC must have a NSW Working with Children Check.  Log in to the Office of the Childrens Guardian web site to apply.  It is free for all volunteers.  Their system will email you an applicant number which you need to take to an NSW motor registry along with same identification.  Once processed, you will be emailed your Working with Children number.
  • All coaches must register with MyFootballClub, in the same way that you do player registrations.
  • No coach should smoke or drink or be under the influence of alcohol, whilst training and games are in process.
  • You must know the rules.  Rules can change from year to year.  Read the rules for miniroos (under 6s to under 11s) here. Read the rules for competitive players (under 12 upwards) on the Football Mid North Coast web site.

Coach Education

  • Whilst it is not a prerequisite we encourage all coaches to do a couple of courses which will give you good grounding for developing skills and coping with players of certain age groups.  Terry Burn, one of our club coaches, will be conducting a Skills Training Certificate course on 22 and 29 March but if you cannot make those dates, there are others.  Find Terry's course or any other one and register here

Managing your Team

Training

MiniRoos teams will train in their age groups.  This gives team coaches peer support and more players to perform their drills.  Also plenty of bodies of games at the end of the drills.  MiniRoos train at Andrews Park.  There is currently no lighting so it is advised to have training completed by 5pm.

Competitive teams train at Landrigan Park.  All team coaches will have agility poles in their kits which, as well as for drills, can be used as place markers for goals and corners of football fields.  Lights will be turned on and it is the last coach on the park's responsbility to turn the lights off.  The club pays for the lighting (and ultimately the players) so Don't Forget, please.  If the lights are not on, call Trevor Lindsay on 0418411793.

Team sheets on Match day

You will need to produce a team sheet for every home game.  Names and numbers must be filled out correctly or the club could be fined.  After the game you or a representative of the team must sign the team sheet, agreeing with the referee's score.  Please check before you sign.

Do you need to find a player’s FFA registration number?

Navigate to the MyfootballClub website where you can choose to find a FFA Number. You will need the players full name and date of birth. Correct spelling is required.

Coaches and Managers Meeting

At the beginning of the season, the club will hold a Coaches & Managers Meeting which will be in late March at Fairmont Gardens.

It is advisable that all Coaches and Managers attend the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is:

  1. to distribute and explain the tools to get the most out of this season, such as Folders with player details, information about team sheet, plus where to find the Competition Rules and the club's own web site.
  2. to distribute kit bags (containing shirts, training tools and match balls).
  3. to ensure all coaches and managers have registered and had their Working with Children checks validated
  4. to finalise training grounds and times
  5. to explain the Coach's Code of Conduct
  6. engage in a training demonstration held by the club's coaching coordinator.  Please bring boots or similar.

The club's Coach Coordinator will address everyone to explain the vision, mission of the club and lay out the goals for this season.

Please contact the secretary or your coaching coordinator if you will miss the meeting and need your team's folder.
