Parents

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

  • Good behaviour is expected from all Jets players, coaches, parents, and supporters at games and Club events
  • Please support the Jets program and become active in the Club
  • Support the whole team, not just your child(ren) and acknowledge good play from all players, including opposition teams
  • Respect the match officials. Young referees are part of the Willetton development program, and many of them are Jets players
  • Allow the Coach to do their job to avoid confusion in the players's minds (i.e. Don't call out instructions to players). Remember coaches are learning too! If you would like to coach please contact the Coaching Coordinator
  • Complaints should be discussed with the Teams & Coaching Coordinator
  • Players should arrive at games and training at least 5 minutes prior to commencement. Every minute late incurs a score penalty against the team unable to commence play
  • Undertake your scoring duty according to the roster provided by the Team Manager

Costs

  • Please note that non-financial members are not permitted to play in finals
  • Registration is paid each season, and includes the compulsory Willetton Basketball Association fees, including game fees
  • Jets registration fees cover the costs of playing tops, court hire for training, equipment, administration costs, trophies etc
  • WBA fees go towards stadium maintenance, wages, referee, running costs, Basketball WA affiliation, insurance etc
  • Spectators are free of charge

Uniforms

  • Willetton Basketball shorts must be worn at games and can only be purchased at the Stadium Office
  • Playing Tops are owned by the Jets Basketball Club and must be returned to the Team Manager at the end of each game
  • Tops must be tucked into shorts during games
  • Correct footwear must be worn - for safety and skill reasons indoor court soft-soled shoes are recommended

Health and Safety

  • Please advise the Coach and Parent Volunteer if your child has any medical condition(s)
  • Include medical conditions when you register your child
  • Players must bring their own water bottle for both games and training - it is unhealthy to share drink containers
  • Jets recommend the wearing of mouthguards for training and games
  • Adornments or styles in/on the player's hair and body must not be sharp or protruding
  • Nails must be short
  • All jewellery including earrings, sleepers and studs should be removed
  • Newly pierced ears must be taped up to one week from piercing
  • Long hair should be tied back and/or up and must not obscure the number on the back of the playing top
  • Severe injuries received at training or during a game should be reported to the coach
  • The Club has implemented a "Healthy Club" Policy. This policy will be available on the web site

Key Positions

    • Coaches
      • Many of our coaches have National Accreditation at Levels 1 and 2
      • All Jets coaches are encouraged and supported financially by the Club to undertake accreditation and attend coaching development programs
      • Interested in coaching? Contact the Coaches Coordinator

  • Parent Volunteer
    • Each team requires a Parent Volunteer, although all parents are expected to contribute to the smooth running of the team. This is not an onerous job, and involves checking the score sheet, producing a scoring roster, and looking after (or delegating) the collection and washing of playing tops.

Inability to Play or Train

  • Please notify the coach as early as possible when a player is unable to attend training or a game
  • Coaches and Parent Volunteers are jointly responsible to ensure the team is present and ready to play at the fixtured time

General Information

  • Notification regarding the Annual General Meeting will be sent to all members. All committee positions become available, and all parents are encouraged to attend and support the people who are working to run your club
  • Trophy presentation function is held around October each year. All players receive a trophy, and game milestone awards are presented.
  • Registration is carried out on-line through this web site. The appropriate form will be accessible as required. Prompt payment is appreciated and will ensure that your player(s) are placed on a team.

Sponsors Needed!

  • Our club is always seeking donations and sponsors to keep fees down. If you can help, please contact the President or any member of the Committee
