First Aid – Saturday 28th April
On the 28th April the club is hosting first aid training (incl. CPR). The course requires pre-work in the form of a CD and booklet and practical sessions on the day. Every team needs a first aid (best to have two). If you do not have first aid – you do not play. This rule is for all footy form U6’s to Seniors.
Please let us know at springwoodjuniors@aflq.com.au that you would like to attend the first aid course. You are welcome to re do your first aid certificate if you already have one.
We have extremely limited positions so please let us know as soon as possible. First and foremost we will ensure that each team has a slot (if required) and then it will be a first come first serve basis. Note: there will be a fee to attend the course. The fee will be posted on the web site this weekend.
Anzac Day – A call from the Pumas Coaches ‘We will remember them'
ANZAC, a single word so powerful in the Australian vocabulary that it can bring a tear to the eye, a lump in the throat and a feeling of pride, just to be an Australian. A word that brings to mind those other words so uniquely Australian that had their origin in the trenches of Gallipoli in 1915 - Cobber, Digger, Fair Dinkum, True Blue, Mate.
2,000 ANZACs would die that first day on the beaches of Gallipoli, more than 6,500 would be killed or wounded by the end of the week in the trenches, gullies and ridges up to one kilometre inland. Eight long months of bitter fighting against the Turks would follow. 10,000 ANZACs would not return home to their loved ones.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
The coaching group would like to get as many players as we can to represent the club at the Anzac Day Parade at Springwood. We would like all that attend (players and parents) to wear the Springwood Pumas Polo shirt (and navy or black shorts / pants). When the ceremony is finished we will then go back to the club house and have a training / game and then finish off with a sausage sizzle for lunch.
