Avalon opens Victoria’s first free airport children’s lounge
Avalon Airport has taken another step forward as Melbourne’s newest airport today with the opening of a free Children’s Lounge that will service both travelling families and families waiting for travellers.
The lounge, which is the result of feedback from customers and staff, will be a first for Victoria and will offer more facilities than lounges in other states and more importantly at no cost to parents.
Speaking at the opening of the Lounge, Avalon Airport, spokesperson Tess Cameron said that the Children’s Lounge was a key part of the Airports program of “Flying Made Easy”
“We have one of the fastest freeways in Victoria to our door, low cost parking and a terminal that we are always upgrading in one way or another to make Avalon the airport of choice for people who don’t want all the hassles of Tullamarine Airport.
“We are serious about building a customer friendly, easy, accessible airport and to do that we know we need to cater for all travellers - families and business travellers alike, said Tess Cameron.
The lounge, which will be able to cater for around 20 kids at once, allowing older kids to kick back and watch cartoons while the younger kids can use the free drawing paper and crayons. The lounge is close to baby changing rooms and provides a comfortable environment for feeding infants as well.
Tess Cameron said that “Child safety is an important issue and the lounge will be monitored by security cameras and has a glass wall that allows parents to keep an eye on their kids while the parents relax with a coffee in front of the regular TV service in the main departure lounge.”
Cutting the ribbon at the opening of the Lounge was 4 year old Isla Moreland, daughter of Avalon Property Supervisor, Dave Moreland, who has four kids. Mr Moreland said the lounge is a great idea and would make travelling with his four kids a lot easier. He now can’t wait to book his next holiday to use it.
“Just have to get the boss to give me some time off!” he joked.
