Troy back in the Tiger's den
Anyone who saw Troy Mitchell play footy would remember him for his skill, tenacity, determination, never say die attitude and his love of the game. Those people will not be surprised that he has returned to Chirnside Park as part of Werribee's new look 2006 coaching panel.
Since hanging up his boots, the father of three has kept busy coaching Lara, which won the 2002 premiership and has made the finals in all but one of Troy's years at the helm.
In his playing days Troy was outstanding, playing in the 1990 Williamstown premiership side, the 1987 Spotswood flag team, and enjoying finals in both his two years with Werribee in the mid-nineties. His individual honours are too numerous to mention but suffice to say he has excelled at every level of the game he has played.
No wonder Werribee has added him to the 2006 coaching panel, a move he is very excited about.
I wanted to return to a club that had treated me so well, and where I'd had a great time. I knew that the club was run extremely well of the field. After meeting Simon (Atkins), I was immediately comfortable and impressed about how it would be run on the field. Personally, I wanted to test myself with the standard of football that comes at this level and see whether or not I could make an impact with my thoughts and ideas, whilst still learning about new structures and ideas."
Troy has taken on a significant role within the coaching structure.
I will be in charge of the mid-field on match days. I will assist and conduct training when required during the week, to assist in player development, and be part of the selection committee. I also feel it is important to be a good ambassador for the Werribee Football Club."
Troy works as a fireman at the C.F.A based in Belmont, and no doubt his whole family - wife Michelle and children Harrison, Logan and Emerson - will find Chirnside Park a very welcoming place for one of the Tigers favourites.
