Tigers triumph over Frankston
With the Werribee Seniors having a bye, it was up to the Reserves to put the club back on the winning list when they played the undefeated Frankston.
After winning the toss and kicking with the aid of a slight breeze, Werribee dominated the first 20 minutes but had little to show on the scoreboard with just a solitary goal. Frankston had the better of the remainder of the quarter Werribee were lucky not to be trailing by more than 8 points at quarter time.
The second term saw a reinvigorated Werribee play with far more purpose, confidence and precision led by Doug Thomas, who had 9 disposals for the quarter. Werribee led by 9 points at half time.
Werribee asserted their authority in the third quarter kicking 5 goals to 1, with Jake Furfaro kicking 2 fantastic goals, Liam Gardiner was unstoppable in the ruck and Kristoffer Thompson was controlling the backline. At three quarter time Werribee had increased the lead to 22 points.
The question was, whether this lead would be sufficient, considering the windy conditions advantaged Frankston.. At the 16-minute mark of the last quarter it appeared that Frankston would run away with a comfortable victory. The young Werribee team (all players under 22) refused to admit defeat. They lifted their work rate dramatically and found the determination to kick 3 goals including 2 to first game player Michael West. Werribee finally won by 18 points.
