TIGERS HELP TACKLE GRAFFITI IN WYNDHAM
A number of tigers will be on the prowl for graffiti when they take part in Wyndham City Council's graffiti clean up day on Saturday 10 February 2007, between 9.00am and 1.00pm.
The Werribee Tigers Football Club, a regular supporter of the clean up days, will be sending players and club representatives to help remove graffiti from public seating, fence line, play equipment and concrete paths in the area surrounding Skeleton Creek, Hoppers Crossing.
Wyndham Councillor Bob Fairclough, who will be attending the clean up day, said the clean ups usually attract around 20 volunteers, many of whom attend on a regular basis.
It is great to see the regular supporters helping out at the clean up days, however we would like to see more community organisations, clubs, businesses and residents participating," Cr Fairclough said.
The results of past clean ups speak for themselves. The volunteers' hard work really pays off when you see the significant impact the clean up has on the amenity of the area cleaned. The clean ups are a great way for people to become involved in their community and build community pride," he said.
Mark Penaluna from the Werribee Tigers football club said that the clean up days provide a great way for the Club to get involved in the community.
"Representatives from our Club have been helping out at the community clean up days over the past few years and it is rewarding to see the impact removing graffiti has on an area," Mr Penaluna said.
"Graffiti management is an issue for the entire community and it is important that the community supports activities such as the clean up days to help make Wyndham a better place to live."
"I encourage other sporting clubs, businesses, groups and residents to get involved in the clean up days and do their bit to help tackle graffiti in Wyndham," he said.
Cr Fairclough thanked the Werribee Tigers Football Club and all the other supporters of the clean ups for all their time and hard work.
"Wyndham is fortunate to be home to sporting clubs, businesses, community groups and residents who are willing to go that extra mile to make Wyndham a better place to live," Cr Fairclough said.
"Without the hard work and dedication of clean up volunteers, it would not be possible to achieve the great results we achieve each clean up day. Wyndham has a very strong sense of community and residents take great pride in their city, so I encourage everyone to come along to the clean up day and help to make a difference," he said.
The graffiti clean up day is organised by Wyndham PROUD, a local committee made up of representatives from Council, local businesses, schools, community organisations and the police. Funding for the clean up is provided through the National Community Crime Prevention Program.
If you would like to do your bit and attend the clean up day please meet at Rosslare Reserve, Hoppers Crossing (enter via Rosslare Court) to register. For further information, please contact Mandy Thomas from Council's Graffiti Management Unit on 9742 8173.
