A match day at the Coburg Football Club is fast paced, varied, unpredictable but above all friendly.
Below is a short story about each of our workers. If you see them at a game, be sure to stop and say hello.
If you would like to become a volunteer at the Club please phone Tracey on 9354 8228.
FOOTBALL RECORDS
George has been around the Club for ever – well for over 30 years anyway. His current position sees him selling football records at the front gate. If you hear his familiar call “Records” please come and say hello to him – oh and buy a Football Record too.
CANTEEN
Bernadette is our Canteen Manager and with her off-sider, son Ben, manage the canteen for the Club.
They are always up for a chat and also have some yummy food on offer too. Be sure to drop by the canteen and see what goodies are on offer.
BEER BOOTH
Dave and Ken confidently man the beer booth at our home games. For all the local gossip, and VFL gossip too, be sure to come and see the boys.
BAR
John is the chief barman in the inside bar. He serves all our Luncheon guests and then gets to enjoy a bit of quiet time when the game is on. During the quarter breaks though come inside and enjoy a drink where you can sit down and have a bit of quiet time before you get back outside to barrack for the “Burgers”.
RAFFLE TICKETS
Be prepared, Ian does not let anyone get away without buying at least 1 raffle ticket. With his friendly nature – he also loves a chat – he is bound to get you supporting the Coburg Football Club.
THE CLUB STALWARTS
Ian and Graeme have also been around the Club forever. They have both held committee/board positions and still come back for more. Although their match days are a little bit quieter than in days gone by (though Graeme is sure to bust his boiler one day) they are now able to enjoy the President’s Luncheon as Golden Tigers Members.
Graeme is the ground announcer, general handyman and he lights the gas cooker for me.
Ian can often be seen (or heard) from the scoreboard where he often fills in when Kyle has to work.
SCOREBOARD
Kyle is the man who keeps the scoreboard ticking over on a match day.
Although he is rarely seen I am told that he gets fed quite well by the canteen staff who take it in turn to take food and drinks up to him.
BBQ
The Pascoe Vale Rotary Team take great delight in cooking up the delicious sausages from the Coburg Meat Supply. Always happy to be doing something for someone else, these fantastic people are great supporters of the club. Ensure you make the stop and buy a sausage in bread, onions and sauce are free. I know Greg Miller enjoys them immensely.
GATE
The Pascoe Vale Rotary are also there to check your tickets at the gate on arrival to the game. Be sure to greet them with a smile and offer up your ticket for entry.
PROPERTY STEWARD
Then who could miss Alan “Grumpy” Walsh on a match day. Arriving at 7am Alan is always the last to leave.
Whether it be players drinks, balls or jumpers Alan is there to sort it all out.
ASSISTANT PROPERTY STEWARD
Tony’s main role at the Club is to help out “Grumpy”. However, Tony’s flair lies with the camera and how many photos he can take in a match. Let’s hope he can catch some awesome pictures throughout the rest of the season.
UMPIRES ESCORT
Then there is the Lord. The Umpires Escort with a difference. With that Richmond tie and polo who could miss him. Always there to ensure that the men in white (green, orange, whatever they are now) are protected from the members and supporters who are really only there to boo them and tell them they are white maggots. Then there is the famous call that can be heard from time to time but especially when we win.
MASCOT
What about the Club mascot. Connor just loves running out with the big boys on a match day. He has been quite fortunate to be able to run out with a Grand Final team at Princes Park last year and this year at the MCG. Connor loves him footy and the Players always look after him. But look out Connor…….Rory is keen to get your job.
TICKET GIRL
Who can miss Shannon. She just loves to sell tickets – no matter what they are for. It is usually the Winning Margin tickets in the President’s Luncheon but it can also be Lucky Tickets after a game. Not a shy girl, Shannon is always willing to make money for the Club.
WEBSITE
Oh and I cannot forget about Damo – the website specialist. He is the one who keeps everyone informed of all the happenings at the Coburg Football Club. He ensures that all the info I send him gets uploaded onto our website at www.coburgtigers.com.au
I would like to give a big thankyou to all those who assist with ensuring that our match days run smoothly and are a success.
