League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

Eagles upset the league leading Tracy Village Jets 55-44, putting a halt to a Bomber undefeated streak that began with the first game of this season. The Jets had stormed out to a 12-8 lead after one quarter of play, but once the Eagles found the range and their shots started dropping they slowly pulled away to record their third win in a row. The Eagles reversed the first quarter stats to lead at the half by 19-18, but after the break the Birds dominated as they outscored the Bomber 36-24 to run away with the win. Eagle Trish Graham (14ppg) led all scorers with 18 and had help from Michelle Friel 13 @ 20ppg and Lillian Williams 10. Demi Cubillo (5.2ppg) had the hot hand for the Jets with 15 while Kylie Duggan (10.6ppg) added 10.

Ansett v Lightning

Lightning jumped all over the undermanned Ansett to notch up their second win of the competition, a resounding 55-33 victory over the Blues. The win lifted them up off the bottom of the ladder. Chelsea Cook (10.5ppg) had her best overall performance so far this season with a game and team high 19 followed by 11 from Tahnee Lew Fatt (7.8ppg) and 9 from Sarah Carbone. The second quarter proved pivotal for the Lightning as they outscored the Blues 16-5 (24-13 half time lead) to take command of the game. Eloise Drescher (6.2ppg) top scored for Ansett with 12 and Kate Hoschke (5.2ppg) chipped in with 11.

Warriors v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels thumped the Warriors 77-20 holding the Maroons to just 6 points for the second half. The Rebels charged out to a 22-11 first quarter lead before the two teams put in what is one of the all time League low scoring quarters ever. The Rebels hit 6 points to the Warriors 3 in the second quarter to lead 28-14 at the half. The Rebels then powered past the luckless Warriors 49-6 in the second half. Tamara Sheppard (26 @ 24.1ppg) and Jaylene Bonson (23 @ 18.4ppg) did most of the scoring for the Rebels while Jennifer Kinsella led the Warriors with 7.

League Men – Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

Travis Ellis led the Tracy Village Jets to a close 72-63 win against a Lightning outfit looking to upset the ladder leaders. The Jets raced out to a scrappy 19-11 first quarter lead getting 7 of their points from the charity stripe. A 12-8 run in the second quarter gave them a 31-19 half time lead which proved too big a hurdle for Lightning to overcome. Lightning did fight back in the third quarter behind the effort of Cameron Bailey who hit 11 of his team high 27 during a Lightning 22-18 run that closed the gap somewhat, but they couldn’t continue on with the effort in the fourth quarter. Ellis (25.5ppg) came to the fore in the last quarter, nailing 13 of his game high 30 as the Bombers closed out the game. A great partnership of 27 points between brother’s Dan (11) and Brad East (16) lent support to Ellis and Sam White added 10. Bailey (15ppg) had help from Jesse Bell (20.2ppg) with 16 and Dylan De Santis with 10.

Eagles v Uni Rebles

Charles Benning continued on with his recent good shooting form to hit 38 points while leading the Eagles to a 110-74 victory against the Uni Rebels. The win was the Eagles fourth in a row. Benning now leads the League in points per game scoring at a 28.5ppg clip. His output more than matched the 27 points from new Rebel recruit Adam Yeoman who hit the court for the first time this season. The Eagles flew out to a 26-17 point first quarter lead and never looked back outscoring the Rebels in every quarter. Joseph Johnson (20ppg) hit 23 and Buster Perkins 16 for the Eagles while Jake Kirby (16 @ 11.5ppg) and Rick McCalister (13) helped the Rebel cause.

Warriors v Ansett

Ansett set the stage for another win as they shot out to a 20-9 first quarter lead on their way to a comprehensive 73-39 win against the Warriors. The win was the Blues fifth in a row and keeps them locked in first place with the Jets. The scene is now set for their match on Tuesday with the Eagles who are trying to break into the top two. The Warriors put up a bit of a fight in the second quarter, but fell away after the break as the Blues took advantage of their superior offense. Cameron Parnham led Ansett with 20 point’s, Matt Hunt (17.6ppg) had 19, Ross Vasic 14 @ 8.8ppg and Matthew Barrett 11 @ 9.4ppg. Tendayi Muyambi and Liam Devine hit 8 each for the Warriors.
