League Women – Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

The Tracy Village Jets won their 17th game in a row, handing Ansett a 56-47 loss on Friday night in the DBA Challenge Season competition. Four players hit double figures for the Bombers with Kylie Duggan being the central figure during the game. Duggan put together a fine all round game with a team high 16 points plus 14 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists and 3 blocked shots. Tikesa Docherty-Cole added 15, and Erin Geer & Abby Cubillo hit 11 each in support. The Bombers took a slim first quarter lead of 10-9 and then steadily pulled away from the Blues over the next two quarters to lead 40-24 heading into the last quarter. Sam Drescher kept the Blues in the contest, getting a double-double with a game high 20 points and 21 rebounds, but with only one other player in double figures (Amelia Shanahan with 10) they struggled to keep up with the Jets. A very unordinary 41 turnovers didn’t help the Blue’s cause either.

The run gave the Rebels a 42-31 lead with a quarter to play and they needed the buffer to hold off Lightning. Lightning shot 31% from the field to just 21% for the Rebels, but the Rebels put up 84 shots to just 55 for Lightning plus they also collected 22 points off of 30 turnovers by Lightning. Jaylene Boundry led the Rebels with 13 points while Tahnee Lew Fatt & Sarah Hagen shared honours for Lightning with 12 each (Hagen also grabbed 14 rebounds).
