League Women Round 5 –Tracy Village Jets v Lightning

Tracy Village knocked off the Lightning 86-33 behind their hot handed guard Sam Rioli who netted a game high 29 points during the thumping. Rioli had plenty of support from Danielle Totham ((11), Erin Geer5 (11) and Tahnee Maxwell (10) as the Jets continued on their unbeaten way. The Bombers set the tempo early with a strong 27-8 run in the first quarter and never looked back. Bonnie Illingsworth hit a team high 15 for the Lightning.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Eagles dumped the Uni Rebels 65-47 as the trio of Alysha Williams, Michelle Friel and Lillian Williams all hit double figures for the Birds during the win. The Williams pair is mother (Lillian) and daughter. The Eagles jumped out to a handy 19-9 first quarter lead and maintained a good enough buffer for the remainder of the game to run out winners. Carlee Ah Mat carried the scoring load for the Rebels with a team high 17 and she had support from Kalisha Rioli who hit 10. Alysha Williams and Friel both hit 16 for the Eagles with Lillian Williams adding 15.

Palmerston v Ansett

Palmerston walked all over an undermanned Ansett side to the tune of 102-36. A team and season high 30 points from Brittany Ward led the charge for the Power as they ran past the Blues. A dominant first half put the Power up 43-20 and after the break they stepped up the onslaught even more with a 59-16 second half run home for the win. Four other Power players beside Ward hit double figures with Christine Cooper the best of the lot with 18. Guard Carla Jones led the Blues with 14.

Next week Round 6:         Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston 6:15pm, Lightning v Eagles 7:45pm & Uni Rebels v Ansett 9:15pm

League Men –Eagles v Lightning

New USA recruit James Silvie led the Eagles to an 84-68 win against the Lightning Friday night for their third win in a row. The Lightning fell behind 25-11 in the first quarter, but picked up the pace in the second and third quarters to stay with the Birds although they still trailed by 11 points heading into the last quarter 60-49. Unfortunately for the Lightning Silvie hit the first basket of the fourth quarter and the Birds were off on another run (24-19) to close out the game. Three other Eagles hit double figures: Jesse Williams-Hook (17), Tori Walden (14) and Henry Bui (13). Tom Godwin led the Lightning with 17, Christian Willams hit 15 and Karston Oltrop had 11. All the Lightning’s first quarter points except for 2 came from the free throw line.

Palmerston v Tracy Village Jets

Palmerston put the points up on the board to send off their star guard Jesse Bell with a win. The Power edged out the Jets 73-68 as Bell hit a game high 25 in his final game for the Power. The Bombers took the honours in the first quarter, leading 17-13 behind the shooting from Daniel Miller and Matt Lee, but the Power bounced back in the second quarter to tie it all up at 31 apiece at the half time break. After the break the Power took charge and went on a 20-12 scoring run to grab the lead. The Bombers threw everything at the Power in the last quarter and despite winning the quarter 25-22 they fell short of a comeback win as the Power hung on. Aaron Simpson chipped in with 19 in support of Bell while Phil Collins led the Jets with 23 (including 5 treys) and Miller ended up with 19.

Razzle v Ansett

Ansett easily accounted for the Razzle, winning their contest 77-48. Daniel Florance knocked down a game and team high 23 with Matt Hunt adding 13. The Blues never let the Razzle get close after a 20-8 first quarter run. The Razzle got 16 points from court captain Rob Oliver, but there wasn’t enough support to stay in touch with the running Blues.

Ladder after Round 5:                    Eagles 3-1, Palmerston 3-0, Ansett & Lightning 2-1, Uni Rebels & Tracy Village Jets 0-2 & Razzle 0-3

Next week Round 6:  Palmerston v Lightning 6:15pm, Tracy Village Jets v Ansett 7:45pm & Eagles v Uni Rebels 9:15pm. Bye: Razzle
