10 May – Round 6 rescheduled games - League Men –Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

Tracy Village Jets rumbled to their second straight victory with a hard fought 67-63 win against second placed Ansett. The Blues succumbed to the relentless pressure from the Bombers, losing their second game in a row after falling to the Lightning on Friday night. Darrin Weetra again proved to be the catalyst in the win for the Bombers as he ignited a third quarter rally that put the Bombers into the lead at 52-46 with a quarter to go. Weetra hit 11 of his 15 points in the quarter during a 24-16 run that overhauled the Blues and set up an exciting finish to the game. Mitchell O’Donoghue started launching three pointers (3) in the last quarter, giving the Blues a bit of a chance, but the Bombers shut the challenge down with Jayden Adams nailing a couple of baskets close to the end of time and Weetra (Darrin) and Alex Weetra potting a free throw each to finish off the game. Alex Weetra finished up with 11 points and Adams & Ryan Marshall hit 10 each to round off the Bombers scoring while O’Donoghue tallied 13 for the Blues. He had support from Matt Van Pelt & Tom Hunt who each had 12.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Eagles were grounded by the ladder climbing Uni Rebels who notched up their third win in a row with a close cliff-hanging 76-73 victory. The Rebels put pressure on the Birds early by running off 20 points to just 6 in the first quarter thanks to the shooting of John King who potted 9 of his game high 30 points during the run. The Birds rallied a little in the second quarter winning it 24-22 with a solid team effort, but at half time the Rebels still had the lead at 42-30. By the end of the third quarter the Eagles had cut the lead to just 9 points at 59-50. In the last quarter the Eagles threw everything they had at the Rebels to get on top, but the Rebels hung on, despite the determination of Eagle Justin McKey who hit 14 of his season high 23 points trying to get the Birds across the line first. King led all scorers with 30 and Tim Morris had 23 while for the Birds McKey had support from Chris Stewart who hit 17 and James Silvie who added 14. The win was the third in a row for the Rebels and moved them into sole possession of fourth place on the ladder.
