Round 11

League Women Thursday – Ansett v Eagles

The Eagle women shook off a very tenacious Ansett outfit to slip past the Blues 54-47. The Birds stopped a two game losing skid, but had to work hard for the win. The game was tight all the way with Blues leading scorer Clancy Dorman peppering the hoop from outside the arc to the tune of 23 points…7 shots from outside the three point line. Without Dorman the Blues weren’t even close to the Eagles. Michelle Friel and Faye Armstrong led the Birds with 14 and 12 and got way more support from their team than the Blues got from theirs and that was the big difference. The Birds went on a 17-12 last quarter run to scoot ahead of the Blues who were only 2pts behind at the start of the quarter at 37-35.

Tracy Village Jets v Lightning

Tikesa Docherty-Cole & Danielle Totham hit 14 points each to lead the Tracy Village Jets to an easy 59-20 win against the Lightning. The Bombers held the Lightning to single digits for all four quarters as they tagged on another victory this season for their 18th straight win. Tahnee De Santis also hit double figures with 10. Lightning struggled to score throughout the encounter. Bonnie Illingsworth & Emma Carbone had 5 each.

Razzle v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels used their ‘get outa jail’ card against the Razzle to claim a narrow 48-46 victory. The Razzle were on the verge of taking out the game, but a second half comeback by the hard charging Rebels got them over the line thanks to a couple of late baskets by Danielle Ponter and Chantelle Lee. The Rebels trailed by six at 39-33 with a quarter to go when they launched their charge. Lee led the offensive scoring 8 of her total during the 15-7 run. Rebel Ambah Kowcun led all scorers with 29 and Lee finished up with a season high 14.

Ladder:                                                            Tracy Village Jets 13-0, Uni Rebels 8-4-1, Eagles 7-5, Ansett 4-9, Razzle 3-10 & Lightning 3-9

Next Week Round 12:                                   Thursday: Razzle v Eagles 7:45pm. Friday: Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets 6:15pm & Lightning v Ansett 7:45pm

League Men Thursday – Razzle v Lightning

Craig Martin led a Lightning strike against an undermanned Razzle outfit to post an easy 68-38 win to catapult back into sole possession of second place on the ladder. Martin hit a game high 24 points with help from Karsten Oltrop 12 and Harry Fuge 10. The Lightning slowly built up a 30-18 half time lead and powered on through the second half, outscoring the green and gold 38-20 to record their ninth win of the season. David Carroll led the Razzle with 16 and Rob Oliver added 11. The win by Lightning sets up a huge match-up next Thursday against the Eagles.

Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

Eagle Chris Hart won game scoring honours with a 34 point effort as the Birds outlasted the Tracy Village Jets 89-75 for their fifth win in a row. Deola Folarin chipped in with 29 as the Eagles brought the Jets 8 game winning streak to an abrupt halt. The Bombers got 33 points from Travis Ellis and 14 from Jett Sukcharoen, but although the game was a close affair the Jets couldn’t breech the gap the Birds had set up in the first half 43-39. Jets Michael MacLean and Marcus Dyason also hit double figures with 12 and 10.

Ansett v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels walked all over Ansett with a definitive 105-49 win that keeps them on top of the ladder. The Blues didn’t put up much opposition as the Rebels charged out of the blocks for a first quarter 25-7 lead and never looked back. There was no let up for the Blues as the Rebels ran riot. Tyler Jefferson is proving to be a good fit for the Rebels as he led them with 23 points followed by Brad Jachmann 20, Jake Kirby & Lance Schmidt 15 each and Thomas Uppena & Aaron Simpson with 10 apiece. For the Blues Matteo Rowse was back on deck and he led them with 23 and Tully Hemsley put up 15.

Ladder:                                                             UniRebels 10-3, Lightning 9-4, Eagles & Tracy Village Jets 8-5, Razzle & Ansett 2-11
