Round 16

League Women – Eagles v Ansett

Ansett’s track into the upcoming finals was boosted by a confidence building 72-51 win over the fourth placed Eagles in the last round of the regular competition. The Blues get a double chance at making the Grand Final and at this stage are looking very likely to get there. The Eagles took the initiative in the first quarter taking a 9-0 lead early and settling for an 18-16 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Blues got on track eventually and put in a 16-10 run for a 32-28 half time lead. The third term proved to be the downfall of the Birds as the Blues outscored them 21-8 for a game winning 53-36 lead with only a quarter to play. It proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome. Kisha Lee (20ppg) top scored for the Blues with 22 points followed by 16 from Tamara Sheppard (12.1ppg), 13 from Tamiyah Perkins and 11 from Ashton Eaton. Eagle Trish Graham (17.7ppg) was on fire from outside the arc hitting 5 treys in her haul of a game high 24 while Jasmine Stovall added 12.

Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

The minor premier Tracy Village Jets tuned up for the playoffs with an 89-56 thumping of the Lightning to end the regular season with a 15-1 record. The pick by many to take out the Grand Final the Jets hit the floor running and left the Lightning well behind after a 26-12 first quarter lead. Due credit to the Lightning for bouncing back in the second quarter to only drop behind by one more point. At the half it was 41-26 in favour of the Jets. After the break the Bombers piled on 48 points to 30 to cruise home for the win. Tania Dhu (7.9ppg) led the Jets with 22, Sam Rioli (16.5ppg) had 20, Kylie Duggan 14 and Tikesa Docherty-Cole 13. Lightning’s Brittany Ward (15.6ppg) hit a game high 24 with Kira Pendlebury & Emma Carbone finishing with 10 each.

Uni Rebels v Razzle

The Kowcun sisters, Ambah & Annelise, led the Uni Rebels for the second week in a row with a dominating effort to give the Rebels a 65-51 win over the Razzle. Ambah led from the front with a game high 30 points that put her into the lead for best average for the season with 20.1ppg. Ambah also now leads the competition in total points scored with 302. Annelise lent support to her sister with 14 points. The Rebels took a 12-10 first quarter lead that blew out to a 15 point lead by half time after the Rebels outscored the Razzle 20-7 in the second quarter. The rest of the game was played fairly evenly with the Rebels only adding one point to the spread. Erin Boyd (12.4ppg) from the Razzle led all scorers with a game high 23, but she was the only player in double figures for the Green & Gold.
