Round Two

League Women – Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets racked up their second consecutive ton with a 107-42 thrashing of Ansett. Five players hit double figures with Erin Geer leading the way with a League high 31. The Jets were on fire early in the game taking a 32-10 first quarter lead that blossomed out to a 55-23 lead at half time. The Blues didn’t stand a chance as the Bombers kept on rolling in the second half outscoring them 52-19 on the way to their 18th straight victory. Lending a hand in support of Geer were Kylie Duggan (21), Tikesa Docherty-Cole (18), Sam Rioli (16) & Delsey Ah Wang (10). Erin Boyd had 13 for the Blues with Clancy Dorman on 9.

Palmerston Power v Lightning

Lightning got the better of Palmerston Power as they posted a 57-50 win for their opening win of the season. The Lightning slowly pulled away from the Power after a close 11-10 first quarter. Haley Hendricksen (11 of her 25pts) sparked a momentum change for the Lightning in the second quarter as they ran off 19 points to just 13 for the Power to give them a 30-23 half time advantage. In the third quarter the supporting cast to Hendricksen took over and put the Lightning on a 19-8 run for a 49-31 lead with only a quarter to go. Palmerston gave it one last shot in the fourth quarter as they pulled back some points during a 19-8 run, but the Lightning regrouped and hung on for the win. Ashlee Walsh also hit double figures for the Lightning with 10. Brittany Ward & Haven Hohipa-Wilson led the Power with 22 & 19.

League Men – Thursday – Eagles v Uni Rebels

Alex Fertig made his debut for the Eagles memorable with a 53 point effort to lead the Birds to a 110-92 win over the Uni Rebels. The Californian not only top scored with a League high, but he also nailed 10 three pointers during the scoring spree. The Rebels were hanging tough for most of the game, but just couldn’t keep up with the Eagles in the early going. The Birds took a 3pt lead after one quarter, added 10 to that in the second quarter for a 56-43 half time lead and by the start of the last quarter held a 20 point lead at 84-64. The Rebels kept up the pressure behind some good shooting from Chad Bewley and Rich Brown, but the Birds had all the answers. Helping out Firtig was Joseph Johnson with 19 and Lachlan Shipway with 11. Bewley finished up with 36 and Brown 30 with Jake Kirby adding 17.

Palmerston Power v Lightning

Lightning & Palmerston put up a lot of points in their encounter with the Lightning claiming the win 99-92. Palmerston had the early lead, 25-24 after one quarter, but a 31-12 scoring blitz from the Lightning in the second quarter opened up an 18 point lead for the Lightning at the half time break. The Power pegged back a few points in the third quarter with a 25-22 run, but they were still trailing by a considerable amount heading into the last quarter. A surge from the Power with 3:12 left got them within 2 points at 87-85 after a Ben Streeter trey, but the Lightning responded with 7 straight unanswered points thanks to Cameron Bailey and Alex Kisselev to reassert their lead. They then finished off the game with 5 free throws in the last minute as the Power grappled for possession of the ball. Kisselev tallied 40 for the Lightning with Craig Martin adding 35. Jesse Bell led the Power with 34, Streeter finished with 16 and Jarrod Sheppard hit 12.

Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

The Blues of Ansett claimed top spot on the ladder with their second win of the season, a 95-77 victory over the Tracy Village Jets. Import Jerron Jamerson lit up the scoreboard again with 31 for the Blues as he led five players in double figures during the rout. The Blues took a 30-22 first quarter lead and just added on for the remainder of the game. The Jets trailed 50-43 at the half, but faded away in the second half, failing to mount a significant challenge to the Blues. Nathan Appleby chipped in with 16, Joseph Stewart 13, Freddy Webb 12 and Mitchell O’Donoghue 11. For the Jets Michael MacLean hit 19, Shannon Bartlett 16, Timmy Duggan 14 and Alex Weetra 13.
