Women


Warriors showed that despite their slow start they are far from out of this season’s competition by capturing their second consecutive big scalp, beating the Uni Rebels 72-62. The win was set up with a big 24-8 first quarter and while the Uni Rebels forced their way back into the game and threatened to stage a big comeback they fell short in the final quarter. Peta Bailey was next to unstoppable on her way to 30 points while Tara Carroll dominated early with 21 of 22 total points in the first half before finding foul trouble. Jaylene Bonson led the way for the Rebels with 26 points, including 12 in the third quarter as the Rebels began their fightback. The in form Warriors now look towards Razzle next week who are on a three game losing streak, while the Rebels face the bottom placed Jets.

After there shock loss last week Ansett have bounced back behind a league season high 46 points from Sam Drescher to convincingly beat the TV Jets 84-36. Drescher was unconscious in the first quarter scoring 23 of the teams 37. Eloise Drescher also contributed strongly with 12 points. Emily McInerny again failed to test the scorers (2 points) but was dominant with her strong passing, rebounding and defensive plays. The Jets who struggled badly in the first quarter were led by Jordan Ah Sam with 15 points.

The Eagles have won one of the most exciting games of the season by 1 point in overtime 62-61. With 23 seconds left in regulation Razzle had the ball but a late three point shot by Brianna Grazioli fell just short and left the game to go to overtime. In overtime the Eagles through five quick points early from Katherine Hollis jumped to a five point lead before Razzle fought back to within one. With 13 seconds left the Eagles managed to avoid a foul and hold onto the ball to capture the win. Michelle Friel continued her great recent play leading the Eagles with 19 and Megan Reeve also contributed 14. For Razzle Keisha Tinley managed 20 points while Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe had a relatively quiet game by her standards with 14. Razzle will now look to regroup next week and end a three game winning streak against the giant killing Warriors.

Men


The Eagles appear to be back on track after a 40 point romping of Razzle 102-62. Timmy Duggan dominated the first half with 20 of his 34 points to go along with numerous sweet dishes. Darrin Weetra played one of his best games this season scoring 25 points including seven of the team total 17 three pointers. For Razzle Kyle Webb hung tough inside to score 17 points while Richard Foster had 15 points before fouling out.

Uni Rebels have run wild on the score sheet with a demolition of the Warriors 111-71. Nick Freer set a new season league high with 51 points which included some amazing highlights and eight dunks. Jarrod Sheppard continued his return to shooting form with 28 points including 5 three pointers. For the Warriors Bayi Handy was again prominent with 31 points and was one of the few players who contributed in the second and third quarters as the Rebels ran away with the game.

The TV Jets ran out easy winners against Ansett 70-44 after dominating the first quarter 17-5. Former Newcastle ABA player Matt Fagg led the Jets with 15 points while Travis Ellis contributed a quiet (by his standards) 14 points. Ansett missing one of their top players in Jake Feeney struggled to find a hot hand with only Ross Vasic (11) and Trent Chalmers (10) breaking double digits. The Jets will now face the Rebels in a monster top of the table clash (both teams are 7-1) at 6.15pm next week on court 1.
