Results from Tuesday 16th February – Round 3

Women’s

The Eagles have bounced back from their loss last week to record an impressive 76-49 victory over Uni Rebels in which they won every quarter. The Eagles spread the scoring with five players scoring double digits led by Katherine Hollis (14) and Michelle Friel (14). For the Uni Rebels, Jaylene Bonson led the way with 19 points but was the only real offensive threat for the Rebels who clearly missed the inside presence of Delsey Ah Wang.

Ansett have held on to defeat the TV Jets 56-47. After establishing a 15-5 lead after one quarter Ansett extended to lead by 15 at half-time and despite the desperate efforts of the Jets held on to win by 9. Sam Drescher led all scorers with 25 including 18 in the first half. For the TV Jets Desiree Weetra finished with 16 after failing to score in the first quarter.

Claire O’Bryan has scored a league season high 45 points to lead Lightning to a 109-42 demolition of Warriors. Tamara Sheppard (22), Chelsea Cook (16) and Lauren Sealy (11) all contributed heavily to the largest women’s team score scored in over a year. For the Warriors veteran Donna Peters tried valiantly and finished with a team high 12 points on a night when Warrior points didn’t come easily.

Men’s

Ansett remain one of two undefeated teams after running away with a 101-51 victory of Razzle. Ansett’s American recruit Ernest Holmes top scored for the game with 29 while Ross Vasic bounced back from two quiet first weeks to finish with 22 points. Razzle who were clearly missing the experience and skills of Mitch Selwood struggled to contain Ansett defensively but can take some positives from the game offensively, particularly with the strong play from Alan Watson who led his team with 21.

The Eagles cruised to a 98-56 over a struggling Warriors side. Timmy Duggan was unstoppable in the second half on his way to 30 points (27 in the second half) which included eight treys. Matthew Bakunowicz (18), Daniel Reid (15) along with Justin McKey (11) & Joseph Johnson (11) all contributed strongly to the scoresheet. For the Warriors the lack of depth was clear with Leon Purdue unavailable and 3 other starters from 2009 no longer suiting up. Leon Schultz who has become this seasons go to guy for the Warriors was again their best finishing with 23 points.

The TV Jets have stamped themselves as the team to beat in the 2010 Challenge Season with a strong 4th quarter display to run over the Uni Rebels 68-53. The Rebels lead early in the 4th quarter but were unable to convert shots into points down the stretch. Travis Ellis was a force and finished with over 50% of the TV Jets points with 35, while Dan East was the second highest Jet with 14. For the Rebels Marcus Ch’ng (22) and Jarrod Sheppard (21) combined for 43 of the teams 53 points and the Championship Season premiers now find themselves 1-2 to start the season.

Ansett 3-0
