League MEN –Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

In a hotly contested match between frontrunners Tracy Village Jets and Ansett the Bombers had to pull out all the stops to win the encounter 67-63. Ansett powered off the runway in the first quarter with Bryce Whitaker leading the way to a 21-12 lead. Whitaker hit 9 of his 17 points as the Blues shut down the Jets offense. However, the Jets reversed the scores in the second quarter as Nick Pattrick (23) and Michael MacLean (17) took charge of the Bombers running game. At half time Jets held sway with a 34-32 lead, promising an exciting second half. The teams didn’t disappoint, going nose to nose thru to the end, neither giving much away. But it was the Jets who took away the points, doing just enough to grab the win to remain undefeated. Tom Hunt from the Blues also had 17 points in support of Whitaker while for the Jets Daniel Miller chipped in with 13.

League Men – Razzle v Eagles

The Eagles welcomed back the return of guard Timmy Duggan and a return to winning ways as they punished Razzle 95-52. Joseph Johnson hit a game and season high 29 (17 in the first half) while Duggan peppered the hoop from outside the three point line for 24 (including 6 treys). Zac Looker and Henry Bui also helped the cause with 14 and 11. Razzle failed to put in any sustained effort in the second half after trailing 41-28 at half time. The win by Eagles also broke a tie between the teams and lifted the Eagles into third place on the ladder. James Panton put up 20 points for the green and gold with Ross Vasic and Charlie Reaper adding 10 each.

League Men – Uni Rebels v Lightning

The return of guard Marcus Ch’ng to the Uni Rebels lineup proved fortunate as Ch’ng (17) hit four straight free throws as time was counting down for a thrilling 58-55 win against Lightning. Ch’ng hit the shots in the closing seconds of their game to hold off a comeback effort from the Lightning who outscored the Rebels 21-16 in the last quarter. Leading 39-28 at the break the Rebels looked to be doing it easy, but Lightning stepped up their defense to keep the Rebels to just 3pts while scoring 6 themselves in what has to be the lowest scoring third quarter for League men’s teams in years! Although Lightning had most of their starters back for this game they still failed to deliver and slipped to their worst start to a competition since 2006. Jarrod Sheppard from the Rebels led all scorers with 25. Karsten Oltrop had 15 and Dylan De Santis 11 for the Lightning.

Ladder:       Tracy Village Jets 7-1-0, Ansett 4-2-2, Eagles 3-2-3, Uni Rebels 3-2-2, Razzle 2-2-4, Warriors 2-2-3 & Lightning 0-1-7

Next Week:    Razzle v Tracy Village Jets 6:15pm, Uni Rebels v Ansett 7:45pm, Warriors v Eagles 9:15pm, Lightnng-bye
