League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

Another sparkling effort from team captain Sam Rioli led the Tracy Village Jets to a 104-72 win over the second placed Uni Rebels. The win was the 13th straight this season and 20th since last May. Rioli and Tania Dhu got the Bombers off to a great start, hitting 8 points each during a 34-19 first quarter. Jaylene Bonson and Tamara Sheppard steadied the Rebel side in the second quarter in a valiant effort to stay with the Bombers, but they still trailed by a big margin at half time 54-36. The second half proved to be more of the same with an almost identical score line that favoured the Bombers 50-36. The Rebels hit 20 of their total from the free throw line. Rioli led all scorers with 23 while getting support from Dhu on 17, Danielle Totham 15, Tara Maxwell 14 and Kylie Duggan 12. Bonson led the Rebels with 22, a season high, and Sheppard finished with 18 as did Dana Rommel.

Palmerston v Lightning

Lightning stormed past Palmerston 74-32 handing the Power their 13th straight defeat. Guard Lucy Murray knocked down 20 points to lead all scorers, getting help from Kelli Sealy (14) and Emma Carbone (13). Lightning set the tempo in the first quarter with a 17-8 run and set off on a 20-5 run in the second quarter to be well out in front at half time 37-13. The Power tried to mount a challenge in the third quarter but it fell short as Lightning continued to pile on the points. Melissa Charlton was the lone player to hit double figures for the Power with 11.

Eagles v Ansett

Ansett came from behind to claim their sixth win of the season with a close 59-49 victory against the Eagles. The win by the Blues tightens their grip on the final playoff spot as they now have a three game advantage over the struggling Birds for the spot. The Eagles surprised the Blues by charging ahead in the first quarter 14-6 behind the accuracy of Patina Grass and veteran Donna Peters, but the Blues regained the momentum in the second quarter to outscore the Birds 22-15 to trail by just one at the break 29-28. Sam Drescher had led the second quarter come-back, hitting 11 of her game high 24 in the quarter and she continued to fire away in the second half as the Blues steadily pulled away from the Birds for the win. Chelsea Cook added 15 points in support of Drescher while Michelle Friel led the Birds with 13 and Grass ended up with 12.
