Darwin Airport Resort League Results from Saturday 26 October 2013

League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

Tracy Village knocked off the Uni Rebels 82-55 to make it a clean sweep for the season. The Jets won all the encounters by substantial margins and retain their favoritism for this season’s Grand Final…they have already claimed the minor premiership. The Bombers held a narrow 16-13 lead after a close tussle in the first quarter and they extended that further after a blitzing second quarter run of 28-13 to lead 44-26 at half time. Captain Sam Rioli (20) and guard Kylie Duggan (20) combined for 26 of the Bombers first half points. Rebel Dana Rommel lifted her game in the second half to score 16 of her team high 18, but it was all too late for the Rebels as the Bombers had just too many weapons to contain. Tamara Sheppard lent support for Rommel with 16 while Abby Cubillo hit 14 and Tikesa Docherty-Cole 10 for the Jets.

Palmerston v Lightning

Palmerston won their second game in a row and second of the season with a close 56-51 win over the third placed Lightning. Shinade Douglas and Jennifer Kinsella did most of the damage for the Power, hitting 16 and 15 points respectively during the match. The Power held a sizeable 28-16 half time lead, but true to their name the Lightning flashed back into contention with a 22-13 third quarter run that got them within three points at 41-38 with a quarter to go. The Power surged in the last quarter and held on for the win with a 15-13 run. Lucy Murray top scored for the Lightning with a game high 18.

Eagles v Ansett

Ansett rode rough-shod over the Eagles (63-33) who struggled to get going in the first half. The Blues blasted off to a 25-0 first quarter lead after the Eagles had put together a team just in time to avoid a forfeit. The half time line was Blues 39 Eagles 11. Game over virtually, although the second half proved more of a match with the Blues just outscoring the Birds 24-22. That first half was disastrous for the Eagles. Chelsea Cook hit a team high and season high 24 with Sam Drescher and Carla Jones adding 14 each. Michelle Friel led the Eagles with 12 and Lillian Williams had 10.

Ladder:                                        Tracy Village Jets 16-0, Uni Rebels 10-1-4, Lightning 9-1-6, Ansett 7-9, Eagles 3-0-12-1 & Palmerston 2-14

Next Week Nov. 1st Round 17          Palmerston v Ansett 6:15pm, Lightning v Tracy Village Jets 7:45pm & Eagles v Uni Rebels 9:15pm
