League Women – Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets demolished the Eagles 113-12 falling just six points shy of setting a new DBA record for the largest points deferential in a game. The Jets roared away in the first quarter hitting 41 points while allowing no points at all to the Eagles (a DBA record in itself). And the Eagles didn’t fare much better for the remainder of the game as the Bombers tore the soul out of the Eagle camp. Every player on the Jets side hit double figures with Abby Cubillo racking up a team and game high 34. Tahnee Maxwell hit 17 and Danielle Totham & Kylie Duggan tallied 14 each. The return of Duggan to the line-up after injury has added another dimension to the Jets game plan and a lot more headaches to the rest of the competition. The win was the eighth in a row for the Bombers.

Ansett v Uni Rebels

Point guard Jaylene Boundry hit a season high 25 points (including 4 treys) to lead the Uni Rebels to a close 56-52 win over Ansett. The win was the third in a row for the undefeated Rebels and keeps them tied with the Jets for first place, setting up a showdown next Friday between the two sides. The recent addition of all-rounder Sam Drescher to the the Blues line-up has given them a bit more clout, but it wasn’t quite enough on the night to upset the Rebels. Boundry got valuable support from her sister Edith who also hit double figures with 12. Drescher hit a team high 12 with help from Julia Woods who added 10.

League Men – Palmerston Power v Eagles

The Eagles knocked off the Palmerston Power 74-67 for their first win of the competition. Recent addition to the Eagles camp, Christopher Hart, hit a game high 28 points to lead the Birds to victory despite the efforts of Brad Jackmann, Timmy Duggan and Tendayi Muyambi. Hart got help from point guard Reese Turner who dropped in 21 and Henry Bui who had 11. The Eagles had built up a 33-23 halftime lead, but had to hang on in the second half as the Power desperately tried to reel them in.

Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

The Tracy Village Jets leap-frogged into first place over the idle Uni Rebels with an 87-48 thumping of Ansett. The Jets wasted no time in establishing their superiority by taking a 19-11 first quarter lead behind the inspiration of captain/coach Michael MacLean and then extended that lead out to 39-22 at half time. After the break the onslaught continued with the Bombers outscoring the Blues 48-26 in the second half. MacLean led all scorers with 17 while team mates Travis Ellis hit 16, Liam MacLachlan 13 and Darren Weetra 11. Matteo Rowse led the Blues with 15 and Jake Feeney hit 10.

Razzle v Lightning

The Razzle won a nail-biter over the Lightning 72-70 for their first win of the competition and only their second since the beginning of the year! Mitchell King hit the last basket for the green and gold and David Carroll nailed a free throw to give the Razzle the winning margin at the end of the game. King also hit a team high 18 points while Eric Klenke hit 12 and Carroll & Stuart Peach added 11 each. The Razzle led by just three points at the break 37-34. They then pushed the lead out to 10 points after three quarters of play. The Lightning made a last ditch effort to overhaul the green in gold in the last quarter with a 21-13 run that fell just short of success. Harry Fuge led the Lightning with 18. Cameron Bailey added 13 and Karsten Oltrop 12.
