League Men – Ansett v Uni Rebles

The Uni Rebels charged past the Blues from Ansett 86-68 to begin a defense of their Challenge Season title from last year. Rebel Tim Morris will once again be chasing a scoring title after missing out in the Championship Season last year. Morris knocked down 31 points in this affair and he had plenty of help with Jake Kirby adding 21 and Lionel Ogre & Dom Staporya hitting 10 each. The Rebels took off on a 26-17 run in the first quarter and led at half time 40-35. They then stamped their authority on the game with a 30-18 third quarter to boost their lead up to 70-53 making it a big hill for the Blues to climb. Jake Feeney led the Blues with 21, Matteo Rowse had 16 and Matthew Flanegan hit 14.

Razzle v Lightning

Lightning topped the Razzle 80-52 to open their Challenge Season account. The addition of former Palmerston player Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson to the line-up will definitely bolster their chances this season. Craig Martin led the Lightning with 19, Hohipa-Wilson had 18 and Cameron Bailey 8. Lightning led at the major break 37-29 and then bolted away in the second half, outscoring the green and gold 43-23 to claim the points. Ben Cowcher had a team high 13 for the Razzle with Stuart Pearce adding 10.

Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

The Eagles didn’t give the Tracy Village Jets a look in during their dominating 91-56 win. The Birds took wing in the first half to lead by 21 at the break 39-18. Darren Weetra from the Jets put up 21 second half points (including 5 treys), but support was pretty much non-existant. The Birds on the other hand followed the lead of Henry Bui who hit a team high 21, Reece Turner 20, Jesse Williams-Hook 19 and new comer Dirk Steen Dorgon who had 13.

Ladder:  Uni Rebels, Eagles & Lightning 1-0, Tracy Village Jets, Ansett & Razzle 0-1
