Ansett People

I would like to take this moment to mention people who have done the club proud and continue to do the club proud.

In the past we have boasted that there have been players who have achieved great success making State Representations and greater, however one thing that quite often gets forgotten are the people who have played basketball for years. Below is a list of players who have played basketball for a number of years, but the most part of their basketball has been with the Ansett Basketball Club.

We take this time to thank them for their loyalty and recognise their achievements

Geoff Rowston - Geoff was one of the corner stone players of the club. In years gone by he helped the club come what it is today. (many years with the club)

Ron Harris - Another corner stone player of the club in by gone years. Has a great history of the club and did some great work in his time. (many years with the club)

Paul Rowston - Paul was one of the clubs best youngsters in his day. As a tall young man he was an integral part of the State teams that travelled. Not sure when he began his basketball but would definitely have been playing for over 10 years (although has stopped and started every now and again)

Paul Hunt - Paul had a good history with Ansett as his father had a lot to do with the rise of the club. Paul continues to play at a good level but is outplayed these days by his own sons. Paul now does a large amount of administration and coaching for the club.

Paul Mortimer - Came to the club as an under 18 boy after returning from SA. Has played over 10 years with Ansett.

Mark Blacker - Began with the club as an under 12 player, and although had spurts of time down south, he has been a loyal Ansett Boy. Strongly supported by his father Kevin Blacker. Playing for over 10 years.

Nouvelle Reed - Nouvelle has played like many players in spurts of stops and starts over the years. Although she played league in bygone years, Nouvelle has opted for the relaxed pace the lower grades offer while providing guidance and support to the other girls. Nouvelle also has continued her involvement in the club as a coach of the girls program.

Yasmin Seden - Yasmin began as an under 12 player and has gone from strength to strength over the years. Yasmin played over 10 years with Ansett.

Danette Lee (Relocated to Townsville) Until her departure Danette had raked up 9 years with Ansett as a true born and bred Ansett junior. Began about the same time as Yasmin Seden both girls grew up playing ball together.

Kay Flavel (RIP 23/02/2005 - Melbourne, VIC) Kay's involvement with the club goes back many years.  Kay was president of the club since the late 1980's and finally finished her involvement as president and club when she moved onto greener pastures in mid 2001.  Kay was appointed a life member of the club in the mid 90s and was heavily involved also with the Darwin Basketball Association as a match committee member, and a Darwin Basketball Association Life Member. In February 2005 Kay passed away, leaving the legacy of Ansett Basketball Club behind.  She is and will be sadly missed by all her knew her.

Shona McKeen (relocated) - Shona began playing basketball for Ansett as probably one of the tallest under 12 girls in 1989. 2004 marked 15 years of basketball with Ansett and although one year was played with Jets due to lack of an under 18 team, she has remained loyal to the team ever since. For a short period Shona was club president until her relocation to Port Lincoln where she no doubt continues her involvement in basketball.
