Gala Day. 16/11/12.

Gala Day 2012 was a fabulous day for the Club and for those there, a great chance to pick up some fresh homemade cakes, biscuits, lollies, plants, jewellery, books, Nutrimetics, and other odds and ends. There were many raffles and the major Xmas Raffle aired today...be sure to get a ticket or two. The Club made just over $1,300 and that’s a good result. (Hey...next year “bring-a-friend or neighbour along” and we could double that!

Today was also a Bendigo Bank Day, and John and Russell were both on hand to observe and enjoy the plight of bowlers on the John Clark green who repeatedly lost their bowls in the ditch or out of bounds, as it in its dying stages (aka A Green) runs at 20 secs. Now I’m not unhappy about that as not many bowlers get to experience a green at that speed and that can go into our memory banks for dragging out later.

It was all smiles as Director Bob Steele was re-presented with a "sample" cheque for $3,000 (the real cheque having being handed over earlier in the week at Bendigo Banks AGM) by Bank reps John and Russell. $2,500 goes toward the cost of a new watering system for the John Clark Green and the extra $500 (an incentive bonus) was earned courtesy of members support of the Aspendale Gardens Bendigo Bank branch.

Winners of the Losers were: Charles Dentry, John Coassin and Joan Dentry at +12.

Winners of the Winners (on count back) were: Ian McPherson, Klaus Ulmer & Ruth Ulmer. They won with +18 and 10 ends while Mary Weston and team (also on +18) won by 9 ends. (I’d like to know which had fewer shots against.)

The Jackpot did not go off ....well no team won overall by 23.....but the “Winners of the Choccies” did win by 23 in their first game. Congrats to Bill Morton, Greg Kelly and Judy Munn.

Flowers to: Shirley Liddicoat, Lyn Clarke, Denis Meadows, Chris Davis (yes again!), Mary McClellan and John Clark.
