The State Pairs began today with several Edithvale members competing in the Sandbelt Region.
John Clark & Bob Darby bowed out in round one against A. Wilson and L Schraner of Brighton at Elsternwick Park 17/9. Don Chambers and Justin Harrop did the same at Moorabbin, going down 21/17 to S. Miller of SOBC. Defending Sandbelt Champions Bill Morton and John Bryant progressed to Rd 2 at South Oakleigh after defeating T. Stephens (B. McCallum) of Mentone 25/4. Rd 2 had them 14 all on the 17th end to J. Sosbey of Mentone but a one to their opponents on the last sealed their fate and any hope of a back to back win with the final score at 15/14. Good effort boys!
At Cheltenham, Lyn Clark and Mary Weston fell victim to round one opponents J Lindores and Lorraine Burke of Clayton (23/6). Pamela Bryant and Irene Trupke managed wins in both their rounds defeating L Brock Clayton 19/10 and D MacCauley of Caulfield Park 16/10.
At Brighton, Lisa Williams and Trish Eastwood scored 2 wins defeating B Baxter of Chadstone 22/9 and A McCarthy of Caulfield Park 15/13.
The 2 game winners will play at Brighton next Sunday.
Editors Note: It was great to see the Ladies teams supported by the attendance of EBC members Pat Sherriff, Glenis Kent, Ray Yeoh and Walter Trupke (thanks for the Strawberries Walter) and ex member Neil Jamieson at Cheltenham and Carol Baker and Deb Sherry at Brighton. These members gave up their day to staunchly and enthusiastically cheer us on and it was very much appreciated. Thanks!
