The Semi Finals and Final of the Men’s Pairs and the Final of the Ladies Pairs for Sandbelt Region were played at Cheltenham Bowls Club today. There are 43 Clubs in Sandbelt, and making a Final is indeed a very fine achievement.
The Men’s Final was won by the Clayton team of Liam Garlick Adams and Barrie Lester (Skip) by 1 shot on the 18th end, an end that saw them pick up 5 on their opponents Aaron Wilson and Lee Schraner, whom, at 4 up must have felt fairly comfortable! (?) That’s bowls for you...never give up.
The Ladies Final was also won by a Clayton team with Danielle and Lisa Phillips (Skip) (a mother and daughter combo) defeating our very own and very worthy Runners up Lisa Williams (Skip) and Trish Eastwood.
Lisa & Trish got off to a slow start down 2-8 but over the next few ends built up their score to make it 9 all. A loss of a 3 on the next end and more on the end after made a comeback a very big ask, but rise to the occasion they did without a hint of their dire predicament showing in their very steady performance from then on. They equitted themselves well and did our Club proud. Lisa Phillips was able to bring out the big bowl when required and played well, as did her mother Danielle (a very steady draw bowler), but as for consistent drawing on the day Trish and Lisa had more than their fair share of the bowls crowding the head on a green running 13 sec's. Final score 14-21.
Well done to our girls and all that go on to represent Sandbelt...we will follow with interest your games.
Trish and Lisa would like to acknowledge the Edithvale members that came to support them and the support they got from those who couldn’t be there today.
They were really chuffed (!) and ....it was a 2 street there...we were also chuffed!
When you look at the photo of those that were there please realize that the photo was taken a while after presentations etc. so you can add another 15 or more to that. (The Clark's, Darby's, Hewitt's & Steele's had all been there, as was the person behind the camera, Lisa's family and others.) I think anyone else there would have been amazed to see the EDI turn out. The Else’s would have numbered about 15 but included the Cheltenham Umpires, Managers and Kitchen workers.
