Pete's Report for 8/12/12
Edithvale Bowling Club had a much better day on Saturday, with the first side having a tie and three other sides winning. The firsts played at Coatesville in hot and gusty conditions. In a game that Edithvale never led, John Bryant’s four grabbed the last two ends to tie the scores on 78 apiece. Albert Chung’s team had the best performance again, making a big comeback from 8 shots down to win by 11 shots. This included a six on the 10th end and a five on the 19th end. Billy Morton’s team were 13 shots down at the halfway mark, but picked up some valuable shots to reduce their deficit to 9 shots. Peter Woodbridge’s crew led early, but as they have done a few times recently, fell away and lost narrowly.
The seconds returned to the winner’s circle, easily defeating Cranbourne at home by 37 shots. Barb Overson’s team had a day out, picking up a six and two fives on the way to a 25 shot win. The thirds lost narrowly at Bentleigh, with Walter Trupke’s four playing strongly and Norm Overson’s crew coming from behind to get the points. The fourths continued their winning form, easily accounting for Mulgrave at home. Once again Joe Musco’s four were dominant, winning fifteen of the twenty-one ends. The fifths left for Parkdale a little under-manned, and struggled all day, although Frank Baguley’s team had an exciting draw.
The sixths travelled to Yarraville/Footscray (following their traditional breakfast (this time at Jeanette's) to meet the top of the ladder side (Yarraville/Footscray), and came away with a 4 shot win. Jeanette Barrett’s team had a solid victory. Lets hope that win prevails...and it should, as they did play through and did not seek a heat ruling.
