Ho Ho Ho It's Saturday Pennant. 22/12/12.

The only “Ho Ho Christmas Joy” to be had today was that deservedly enjoyed by Kevin Breen’s team of Judy Marchant, Alan Seddon and Roger Williams who claimed the drinks, but alas not the game, with 23 shots up in our 5th side. (Kevin really is Santa after all!)

Alas our topside suffered another loss with last week’s winners/losers roles reversed and a lonely 2 points to chalk up. John Bryant’s team with Michael Cameron playing his first game in this team as third, Jim Brown second and the only female of the side Julie Bennett playing “hot” as a lead were the only team to win with +6. Peter Woodbridge and team were down 13; Albert Chung and team down 2 and Bill Morton and team were down 3. DIV 2 SEC 7: Coatesville 2 2-66 Hampton 2 16-96, South Oakleigh 17-95 Hampton RSL 1-69, Mentone 2 16-88 Edithvale 2-76, Cheltenham 2 18-91 Bentleigh 0-69, Richmond Union 2 2-63 Armadale 16-81.

Our second side put up a good fight against top of the ladder Narre Warren on our Ken Lee green. Glen Baskett and team had an 8 shot win, Barb Overson and team a 3 shot win, Norm Lewis and team were down 5 however the Don Chambers team dropped 16 and it was a big ask to cover that against such talent. Final deficit was 10 shots. DIV 3 SEC 7: Noble Park 2 14-76 Carrum 4-67, Berwick 4 4-76 Hampton Park 14-89, Edithvale 2 4-77 Narre Warren 14-87, Pakenham 2 18-89 Parkdale 0-56, Burden Park 3 18-94 Cranbourne 4 0-65.

Our third side recorded a 13 shot loss on their report. The Peter Howell/John Lyons role reversal worked a treat with that team notching up an 11 shot win. Harold Ritchie also joined the team this week as second with Ant Cameron returning from a week’s malaise. Their gruelling effort however, failed to cover the 5 shot loss by Walter Trupke and team, the 14 shot loss by Norm Overson and team and the 5 shot loss of Neil Lewis and team. DIV 4 SEC 7: Moorabbin 15-85 Hampton 3 3-75, Sandringham 16-88 Edithvale 3 2-75, Bentleigh 2 2-83 Beaumaris 2 16-97, Mordialloc 2 17-89 Chelsea 1-54, Berwick 6 2-61 Black Rock 16-90.

Our 4th side (Div 6 Section 6) suffered a loss at the hands of Keysborough at home on our synthetic, a loss that at one stage of the game seemed unlikely. Unfortunately it all turned sour when too many ends were lost approaching the finishing post. The Costolloe team dropped 13 shots in the last 6 ends after being up 14-9, Joan Lockhart and team dropped 7 in 3 of the last 4 ends, Jo Musco’s team picked up a 5 on the last but were too late to offer any resistance. The bright spot of the day for this side was the +11 win of Bernie, Bernie, Bernie Turnbull’s team! Yes...He “Skipped” and won...isn’t that promising. AND Bernie isn’t it nice to have a team with you that concentrates 100% and gives you their all? DIV 6 SEC 6: Berwick 7 4-74 Eastwood Golf 3 14-78, Edithvale 4 2-77 Keysborough 3 16-80, Hampton Park 3 2-69 Burden Park 4 16-86, Glen Waverley 5 2-63 Mulgrave CC 7 16-86, Waverley Golf 3 0-0 Bye 0-0.

Our 5th side had to compete at Coatesville with Bernie Hambridge’s team and Suzanne Webber’s team both playing 1 player short and thereby losing 25% of their score. They stepped right up however, to turn up, and give 30 players a game they might not have had, keeping losses to a minimum. Kevin Breen and team collected our only 2 points (down 4.5 (5) overall). These 2 points were enough to get them off the bottom of the ladder. So...well done to our 5th side and may you all get the best cuts at the Christmas table... you deserve it!DIV 6 SEC 7: Cheltenham 5 16-90 SOC 2 2-64, Mulgrave CC 8 0-62 Oakleigh 2 18-105, Coatesville 4 16-81 Edithvale 5 2-76.5, Chelsea 2 16-78 Bentleigh 3 2-70, Parkdale 2 18-140 Brighton Beach 0-44.25.

At home on C (our Ken lee) green our Div 10 ladies notched up another win with Jeanette Barrett and team winning handsomely 32 to 25 in a game that changed by biggish numbers throughout in stark contrast to the 15-18 loss by Kaye Cramond and team who fought it out all day with most pickups just 1’s and 2’s. Well done girls, you are well on your way to a Final! DIV 10 SEC 1: Yarraville/Footscray 8 14-46 Waverley Golf 4 0-35, Edithvale 6 12-47 Bentleigh 5 2-43, Berwick 8 1-34 Glen Waverley 7 13-47, Blackburn 7 14-49 Essendon 6 0-28.
