Rd 15 for Midweek Pennant. 22/1/13

The Ladies and the Open have all done well again today, not a sob story to be heard.

Our top side was bumped along with a massive 24 shots up from Barb Overson’s team which had Jeanette Barrett as 3rd, Janice King as 2nd and Pat Gilhooly as Lead. They never lost the lead after scoring a 5 on the first end, finishing off with a 17 shot spree to the tape. The other 2 teams, those of Williams and Cousens both went down by 5 in tight games at home to Mount Waverley. Pauline skipped against Sheila Dillon, former VLBA President and well done to Sheila as she is still top of the tree, a very nice Lady and gosh she must have been a very young President in 1989. Well done to our side tho’ in winning this very important match. DIV 1 SEC 4 - Women: Berwick 2 14-65 Waverley Golf 2-54, Lilydale 16-74 Glen Waverley 3 0-36, Mulgrave CC 2 2-44 Boronia 14-66, Cranbourne 12-54 Doncaster 2 4-53, Edithvale 12-64 Mt Waverley 4-50.

Div 1 Section 5 played away to Cheltenham and also had a very good result picking up 15 points and 23 shots. Judith Thacker and team of Shirley Simpson, Ray Yeoh & Nan Parsons came back 17 shots up, Lockhart & team were up 6 and Carolyn Burgess scraped through with a still, very handy draw, they were 6 or more up at the break, but lost 5 of the last 6 ends to draw. DIV 1 SEC 5 - Women: Cheltenham 1-58 Edithvale 2 15-81, Waverley Golf 2 16-66 Berwick 3 0-38, Beaumaris 14-65 Cranbourne 2 2-48, Boronia 2 3-58 Mulgrave CC 3 13-63, Glen Waverley 4 0-0 Bye 0-0.

Div 1 Section 6 played away to Glen Waverley 5, and put up another good show with Barb Cheshire and team of Shirley Liddicoat Lead, Barbara Harrington 2nd and Claire Baskett 3rd, winning 23-11, enough to cover Lyn Clark & team and Paula Baird & team who both went down by 3. Well done to all in this side....it’s the 10 points that count! DIV 1 SEC 6 - Women: Dandenong Club 16-71 Waverley Golf 3 0-37, Glen Waverley 5 4-54 Edithvale 3 12-60, Blackburn 2 14-70 Beaumaris 2 2-51, Burden Park 1 2-51 Heatherdale 2 14-62, Bye 0-0 Croydon 0-0.

Our mixed (Open) side also did well with all teams up against Keysborough at home. Bob Steele & team never lost the lead finishing up 23-14, Alan cousens and team struggled being 6 down on ends 12, 14 & 17. They put up a great fight back to win 10 over the last 5 ends to win 21-19. DIV 3 SEC 6 - Open: Cardinia Waters 2 16-110 Dandenong RSL Rec 2 0-45, Glen Eira McKinnon 2 2-60 Hampton Park 2 14-67, Willow Lodge 2-54 Narre Warren 2 14-61, Edithvale 4 16-72 Keysborough 2 0-44, Noble Park 3 16-64 Cranbourne 4 0-46.

So drinks went resoundingly to Barb Overson and team, Pat Gilhooly, Janice King & Jeanette Barrett with plus 24. It was a tie for second place but Pamela Bryant’s team were in there again for the third time, as were the Judith Thacker & team of Shirley Liddicoat, Ray Yeoh & Nancy Parsons.

Now I can’t let this opportunity go past me to say that.....Editor Pam’s team of Judy Marchant (L), Ian Clark (2nd) and Denise Chapman (3rd) are in fact “the best performed team at Edithvale”!! Be it Saturday or Tuesday, so there’s nothing better than a challenge! We all play for Edithvale...let’s put every bowl down with confidence...and catch me if you can!
