History

In early 1993, after a suggestion at an Ipswich Junior Rugby League (IJRL) meeting, a community meeting was held to see if there was enough interest in the area of Karalee & Karana Downs to warrant a Junior Rugby League Club in these fast growing areas. At this meeting a committee was formed to investigate the pros and cons of establishing a Club. The Committee was made up of Mr Glen Powell - Chairman, Mark Stanard, Darryl France and Larry Clark.

Two months later a meeting was held between the new Committee, IJRL, QRL and North Seniors as well as parents from the local area. After lengthy debate it was decided to form a junior Club and as required by the QRL to be affiliated under an existing Ipswich Senior Club. North Seniors and West End Seniors both indicated their interest in this affiliation despite the opposition to the Clubs establishment by North juniors. After discussions, assisted with, by the QRL Junior development Officer, the affiliation went ahead with North Seniors.

In mid 1993 the first Committee of the new Club was elected.

Mark Stanard - President         Glen Powell - Vice President

Larry Clark - Secretary            Darryl France - Treasurer.

This Committee made up the name Moreton Twin Rivers. Moreton due to the location within the then Shire of Moreton and Twin Rivers due to Karana Downs being on the Brisbane River and Karalee being on the Bremer River. The home grounds were to be temporarily at the Karalee State School while negotiations with Council for a home ground were undertaken. The Committee continued to meet every two weeks to prepare for the Clubs first season in 1994. A donation of $500 from the Cecil Hotel Social Club (now Jets Leagues Club) was the first deposit in the Clubs bank account.

A competition was held in 1994 inviting the whole community to design the jerseys. The winner was announced at the inaugural sign on day which was held at Colleges Crossing. Jessica Stanard submitted the winning design of Royal Blue with a red v and yellow lightening bolts. The first jersey order arrived from the manufacturer with navy instead of royal blue. Due to the time delay (half of the season) in getting the jerseys the Clubs colours were changed to navy, red & yellow.

Prior to the 1996 season another community competition was held to design a Club logo. This was one by Cameron James who submitted the Tornado design and name.

The Club has continued to grow with each season and with the continued support of the local community, an energetic Committee and Parent group and the enthusiasm of junior rugby league players the future of Karalee Twin Rivers is assured.
