Saints March Into Major Semi
The Inverell Saints have booked a spot in next Saturdays Major Semi Final after recording a confidence building 95 point win over the Muswellbrook Cats at Tamworth No 1 Oval on Saturday’
Led by Mike Gould with 5 goals and defender Chris Schneider playing his best game for the Club, the Saints never were in doubt winning 24 18 162 to 9 13 67.
After yet another slow start, the Saints kicked into gear with an 8 goal to nil first quarter to hold a 47 point lead at the first break.
Gould, who won the Leagues Leading Goal Scorer award, and Al Walker loomed dangerous up forward while Tom Williams and Russell Brien continued to work hard in the centre.
To their credit, the Cats worked hard to get back into the contest and pushed the Saints during the second quarter but the Saints class prevailed as they went into the long break up by 62 points.
Stand in coach Nick Baird asked his players to continue to work hard and not drop their intensity during the break and the response saw Inverell boot 6 goals to 1 with Al Walker kicking three majors for the third term.
The last quarter saw both teams boot 4 goals for the term as The Saints ran out comfortable winners.
Joe Byrnes and Mitch Hall sustained injuries during the game and will be monitored during the week.
The Saints finish the home and away season in second place after the Nomads defeated the Kangaroos yesterday. The Saints finished equal on points with the Roos but had a better percentage
It sets up a Major Semi Final match against the Nomads with the winner of that match to host the 2012 Essential Energy TAFL Grand Final
