Reserves vs Panthers
The CYMS reserve grade side have hit their straps in the past few weeks and hoped to continue their charge towards the semi-finals with a win over the more fancied Panthers team. CYMS got off to a great start when Pat Gibson dived over from dummy half. Panthers hit back soon after after CYMS spill the ball and turn over possession. CYMS then extended their lead when Craig Inu (Piper) was on the end of a lovely backline movement and scored out wide. Blake Baxter converted and CYMS led 12 to 4. the end of the half belonged to Panthers with an intercept try and then another that saw them head to the break leading 16 to 12.
CYMS went back into the lead early in the second half when Wayne Collett broke through the defence and found Jacob Sutherland in support, who raced away to score. After some great lead up work from Pat Gibson, Luke Coleman twisted and turned through the defence to score near the posts. Blake Baxter converted and CYMS held a 24 to 16 lead. Panthers weren't done with, and score after CYMS give away a penalty. CYMS now held a 4 point lead, 24 to 20. From the restart CYMS were penalised for being offside at the kick-off and this gave Panthers a great opportunity. With 40 seconds to go Panthers crossed out wide and the scores were locked at 24 all. CYMS held their breath as the conversion attempt was waved away, they had held on for a hard fought draw.
In the past 4 games CYMS have performed admirably against leading teams in this competition and have to continue to win to keep their semi-final hopes alive. Lets keep it going boys and ensure all our teams make the semi-finals.
