Woy Woy Junior Roosters 2012 Presidents Report:
Our 50th year, 2012 was a big year for the Roosters. We had held a number of events and functions throughout the year which were all well supported.
The 50th Re-union in June was a great night with a large crowd in attendance to see the “Hall of Fame” announced, our Development Day held in July with assistance from ARL Development had over 130 participants not only from Woy Woy but also from neighbouring clubs and some boys and girls who don’t play Rugby League, we held the “Right of Passage Night” for both our under 13 teams and our under 14’s team, the night included a Presentation on Social Media and Illicit Drugs in society with the under 13 boys also being presented with club bags on the night, both under 13 teams and their coaching staff trip to the State of Origin game in Sydney, the Woy Woy Cup which again had good representation from local schools, with a fantastic display of footy all day, our Building Project of the new BBQ area was also finally completed, our fundraising and social events were both successful and fun for all that attended and our Rooster Round-Ups continue to be enjoyed by all who attend them.
The club had 266registered players and fielded 19 teams with teams in every age group in the CCDJRL competition, one (1) in the under 7’s, 14’s and 16’s and 2 in each in the under 6’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, 12’s, 13’s and 15’s. We fielded a 1’s team in all age groups except for the 16’s.
Of our 12 teams playing competitive footy we had five (5) make the semis our 10/3’s, 11/3’s, 12/3’s, 13/1’s and 15/’s with our 12/1’s narrowly missing out on Semi Final berth, finishing in 5th spot on points for and against.
The 10/3’s were beaten in the minor semi finals with the other four (4) teams making the finals with our 11/3’s and 13/1’s winning their games and the 12/3’s and 15/1’s unfortunately being beaten.
The 11/3’s and 13/1’s were both up against undefeated teams in the Grand Final and were both successful in winning the Premiership, a fantastic effort by both teams and their coaching staff.
The Club had sixteen (16) players chosen in Development Squads for 2012 of those; seven (7) were chosen for representative teams Max Bovis under 13’s, Ryan Donnelly under 14’s, Loughlin Kirwan, James Methven, Guy Pearson, Joe Williams and Liam Swan all under 15’s, congratulations boys.
Special mention and congratulations to two (2) of our players who received awards at the CCDJRL Presentation night in September, Max Bovis from the under 13’s for being awarded the Best Forward for the Under 13’s Representative team and also for being named “Best Player on Grand Final day for all International Grand Finals”, and to Kurt Burrell who was named “Under 16/2’s Best and Fairest”, outstanding achievements by both boys.
For our club to function as well and smoothly as it does the contribution of funds and time from a number of organisations and individuals is required and very much appreciated. A huge thank you to all of; our sponsors for your funds that are crucial to fit out our players in jerseys, socks, shorts, club shirt and any training equipment and game day gear required , the committee members for all your time and hard work throughout the year, our Ground Managers who do a great job which unfortunately can be very difficult at times, our First Aid Officers for ensuring all players receive the best care at all times, the coaches, managers and trainers for your patience, commitment and dedication to your teams and the players, our parents, guardians, carers and supporters and finally to all the players who have represented the club in 2012, congratulations to all recipients of the major awards at the Presentation night, I hope you enjoyed your season and that you’ll be back next season.
To our under 16’s who I had the pleasure of coaching this year, on behalf of everyone at the Roosters I wish you all the best for the future no matter what it holds for you, you have all represented the Club with respect and maturity at all times you are a fine group of young men and I wish you all the happiness and success you strive for.
The year culminated in our Presentation Days Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th October, with all our International teams enjoying dinner at the Leagues Club on the Saturday night and our Mini and Mod teams presentations Sunday. Each player received their 2012 50th Year Jersey to keep as well as a participation trophy with our Mini and Mod players taking home a show bag each. A list of Major Award winners is below.
The 2013 season ahead looks to be a very a promising one for the Roosters, fielding competitive teams in all age groups, the possibility of larger number of players being chosen in rep squads and more teams reaching Grand Finals, the start of our relationship with the Easts Group and in particular the Sydney Roosters which is very exciting, the continuing social and fundraising events in the pipeline, furthering our relationship with our Senior Roosters, tweaking our training and development programs to ensure all our players and coaching staff have the best resources that the club can provide and that all players have a challenging, enjoyable and safe experience at the Roosters.
To all at Division, to all the other Central Coast clubs, their, committees, players and coaching staff, general members and supporters and to all the officials the referees and touch judges, thanks very much again for a great year of footy and here’s to a bigger, better and brighter one next year.
To all at the Roosters thanks and congratulations on all your achievements no matter how big or small they were in 2012 and all the best for 2013.
